Why would it be a crime tho, whats illegal about it. What you are suggesting is literally censorship. If its a bad movie with a gross subject matter, then its a bad movie with a gross subject matter, and thats it.

I mean they didn't show it in some countries, and some you wouldn't think of. Was not showed in the UK because they could find no redeeming social value

They’re dumb movies, but they’re just movies. You’re over there watching a World Cup built on indentured servitude. Get some fucking perspective.

The Human Centipede (First Sequence) is a 2009 Dutch body horror film written, directed and co-produced by Tom Six. The film tells the story of a deranged German surgeon who kidnaps three tourists and joins them surgically, mouth to anus, forming a "human centipede".

sonsoflarson t1_ixfbvur wrote

There's way more fucked up films then Human Centipede like Terrified 2 or Martyers or anything by Gaspar Noe... How those films get greenlit is beyond me.

AlignedMonkey t1_ixfbwru wrote

Nothing is criminal about the movie, op is just having a hissy fit and comparing a movie that showed a lot of special effects gore to a notorious movie that actually killed animals and injured people.

I would find that constitutionally offensive. You have absolutely no right to dictate what kind of movies people can make. If you like censorship and no rights move to China.

If you're going after a movie, let's include books as well. I read a popular book that has 2 daughters get their dad drunk so they can have sex with him to continue the family line. How sick is that?!? Should be criminal to allow people to read it.

Because nothing illegal was done during the production of the movie. If you don't like it, don't watch it. There are restrictions on this type of content being aired, so it is difficult for people to watch it by accident. Finally, unlike oppressive religious regimes, we do not have a morality police.

People got arrested on Cannibal Holocaust because the Italian government thought they were killing people not animals. They were cleared of all charges when they proved it was just movie effects. Ultimately this wasn't a crime either.

Animal safety laws were a lot more lax prior to the 90s. Apocalypse Now has a real cow killed and Heavens Gate killed something like 5 horses. It was in the late 80s when the American Humane society stepped in and started enforcing this.

11

Tarik_Torgaddon_ t1_ixfede9 wrote

What happend with Cannibal Holocaust was actually a crime (animal cruelty) so arrests were made. Human Centipede was just an over the top, gross horror movie (I thought the whole thing, from premise to execution, was hilarious in how bad and unserious it was) where no humans or animals were actually harmed in the process. So what exactly do you want banned? Bad writing? Gross effects? Ideas you personally find detestable?

I'm trying to think of what common factors would make a movie illegal/break the law. Some that come to mind would be:

  • animal cruelty
  • child actors working over legal hours
  • unsafe/unsanitary conditions, maybe?
  • invoking violence, possibly? Would be curious what others come up with.

But yeah, even if it seems sick to some people, if all the legal work is done and the actors fully consent then there is nothing wrong with a movie being depraved.

3

lisabea19 t1_ixffd43 wrote

I guess copyright law. So if a movie was blatantly plagiarizing another movie. Or perhaps there would be a case for some sort of misrepresentation if they made an authorized biopic of someone’s true story without paying them/crediting them, or if they told lies about rhay person that could be seen as slander.

Either way, making a gross movie isn’t illegal. What should be illegal is how the whole movie didn’t make any sense.

You must have missed the 90s where it was concluded that banning art is dumb even if you dont happen to like it. Its a slippery slope and the morality police would love to reopen it.

The answer is simple: no one is forcing you to watch it. If you dont like it then dont watch it.

If we're gonna criminalize content because we don't like the content when no other law has been broken, then what's a fair sentence for your post? Ok that's a bit too sarcastic even for my taste, but it makes my point.

People probably ought to get arrested if they're actually killing animals on set (not familiar with that allegation, doesn't matter)... They didn't literally perform oral-anal surgery on the actors in Human Centipede.

The best/dumbest post I ever read on here was someone saying that the Star Wars prequels were generally considered the worst movies of all time.

I wish we lived in that guy’s universe. One where nothing was as bad as the Phantom Menace, you could go to a film and just assume there wasn’t going to be gratuitous sexual assault or terrible technical issues or it just be the director’s personal sexual fantasy. Because nothing was worse than the Star Wars prequels.

There's your answer. Nobody was actually killing animals, or centipeding humans, on the set of Human Centipede. What exactly is your problem? Do you think all horror movies should be illegal?

1

FractalCurve t1_ixhzn1p wrote

Because, thankfully, media production isn't dictated by your delicate little sensibilities.

People got arrested after Cannibal Corpse (edit - sorry, Holocaust. Guess my music taste lol) because similar blithering idiots with similar constitutions suspected that it was actually real people they were killing.

Maybe stick to church groups and you might be happy.
