Dealing with "not so glamorous" side of the movie industry. For example, L.A. Confidential, Get Shorty, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, possibly F/X and Bowfinger. Get Shorty (TV show) and eary seasons of Ray Donovan.

Basically a crime/thriller movie located in LA and involves Hollywood people only as a supporting character (either as a victim or perpetrator).

I am now reading David Baldacci's Dream Town where a PI is looking for a screenwriter and the investigation takes him from a "glamorous world of Hollywood to the darkest corners of Los Angeles—a city in which beautiful faces are attached to cutthroat schemers".... so something similar :)

Edit: More like a crime story located in Holywood, rather than the main characters being producers, actors, or directors., e.g., Hollywoodland or The Black Dahlia, The Nice Guys

Mulholland Drive

Barton Fink

Sunset Boulevard

Hail Caesar

White Hunter, Black Heart (not set in Hollywood, but about Hollywood people travelling to Africa based largely on a real story)

In a Lonely Place (maybe only the setting of Hollywood rather than about it though)

Who Framed Roger Rabbit

Boogie Nights (Hollywood adjacent)

Robert Altman's The Player is great.

A crappy film: Fade to Black.

A nifty, meta, Hollywood Horror film: Rubber.

A cool comedy Thriller: Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

This one looks interesting: "the story is a mordant comment on Hollywood mores and the pitfalls of celebrity and near-celebrity".

Hollywoodland, a 2006 crime-drama, a fictionalized account about the death of actor George Reeves. Stars Gabriel Byrne, Ben Affleck, Diane Lane and Bob Hoskins.

Perhaps not one of the all-time greatest films, but a solid and well-made movie with good performances.
