It's funny how there's LOTS of bad movies with interesting ideas like Master of Disguise, despite being one of if not the worst kids movies ever I'd praise it for it's plot. I get that it's supposed to be a parody of the spy genre but I feel like if someone took the plot of the movie and made it for adults or at least older kids it'd probably actually be funny. Other bad movies with interesting ideas are Grown Ups, I'd only praise it for it's plot and the story was thought of by Adam Sandler in the 90s but then Chris Farley died and it was shelved for a couple years, I feel like had it came out in the 90s it would've been actually funny, but with some changes made (instead of childhood friends spending time at a cabin they'd probably be at a class reunion and recapture their youth and it'd probably have cameos/supporting roles from Gene Wilder, Leslie Neilsen, Will Farrell, Sigourney Weaver, maybe Eddie Murphy, and even have a random cameo from Richard Simmons).

This is gonna sound weird, but Mr Woodcock always struck me as a concept for a movie that could have been really great

Super Mario Bros. That had a lot of interesting choices. A lifelike dinosaur for Yoshi? A grimy cyberpunk world? Dennis Hopper?

Most films have an interesting idea behind them. There’s a reason they got made in the first place.

I think the more interesting question or though would be what movie had the best “can’t miss” idea that actually did miss.

The CBGB movie is one that springs to mind.

The first Suicide Squad movie with Will Smith as well.

Rise of Skywalker - the main character is related to the previous villain

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom - a cloned human

Timeline (2003) - told the book is way better but even if you decided to go another route, how you fumble a time travel movie idea like that?

Vivarium had me hooked with the plot and man did they completely whiff.

The book is excellent, and thinks through a lot of the various plot holes that would come from this type of story.

The fact that it went through all the trouble, just for the movie to completely ignore it was very frustrating.

Jupiter Ascending and Valerian were great concepts because they were these big epic sci-fi stories that weren't related to Trek or Wars. The execution, some of the dialogue, and castings were not it though.

The Covenant also comes to mind. Witch boys, with the lore too, sounds awesome! Acting, directing, and writing was not good though. (I still own the dvd lol.)

Pig. Would have been a great movie with Vin Deisel trying to get his pig back.

Limitless. Wasn’t necessarily a bad movie but there was a lot more that could’ve been done with that concept imo

Horror movies in general seem to have a bunch of cool concepts but often lack in execution.

This will be highly controversial, but Event Horizon.

I loved the setup. I loved the design of the ship. I absolutely hated the wildly inconsistent tone and logic. I couldn’t really work out what the movie wanted to be. Some scenes felt like it wanted to be a psychological horror, others a tribute to Alien, with a smattering of ridiculous 80s action jokes thrown in.

Its one of the few movies I think that is begging for a remake. It has all the elements to be something incredible, but that execution was not it.

In Time.

Just SO MUCH wasted potential for the concept. I still liked the movie as some sort of guilty pleasure, but it could be so much more.

I watched the show when it came out, back then the big deal around the show was that big actor like Bradley Cooper was reprising his movie role as a cameo in a CBS series. it was rare to see actors that big in a network show even as a cameo back then (or even now). I don't remember much of the details but back at the time I thought it was decent, had some good storylines and the whole season storyline was somewhat interesting but overall was an average "case of the week" show. I think the overall story got more interesting toward the end and base on the cliffhanger ending the story had potential to be more interesting if they continue it, but I don't think its cancellation was a big lost.

Not a bad movie, just a boring one, but Yesterday is such a cool concept for a film wasted on a very generic romcom.
