I watched it this morning. By default the film started with English audio. I changed early to German with English subtitles.
A really good job of depicting the joy that comes with comradery, and the anguish that comes with loss.
I loathe the men that sent boys to their slaughter.
And for what?

The movie does some things really well, but for some reason they decided that the main part of the movie should be set in the last three days of the war, which really weakens the movie imo. And the ending is just incredibly dumb.

It's pretty far from book plot, but still good. Movie really lack of story before war, russian camp, first gas attack, time spent in hospital, etc.
There's really good scene when they steal from farmer second time.
Ending is overdramatisation, and minus point to movie.

Also made this change very quickly. Highly recommend. It's the way it should be experienced.

I thought it was ok. I felt that the music was totally unsuitable for this kind of film. It belongs in a nightclub. The battle scenes were horrific, as was the reckless disregard for human life dramatized by the military leaders. Overall I thought it was much better than 1917 which had a powerful start but quickly fizzled out.

Is it available in theaters in US?
I’ve read about the book in AP world history class to understand WWI better but I pretty much forgot everything about it :(

Very intense, very well done. I’ve seen the original black-and-white movie a couple of times and it’s really well done.
