Fight club... I don't know why people love that movie... If you know what happens and you watch it again it makes NOOOOO sense.

Black Swan. A poor man's Lynch.

A movie I love that everyone hates is far more difficult, because there is a whole audience who loves bad films. I'd say The Last Minute though. Not well liked and not really even a cult status movie. Great mindfuck nonetheless.

Yeah well it doesn't make sense... Like when BradPitt is driving and Edward is in the passenger seat? Wtf.... Or when they are helping each other over the wall?? I don't care how crazy you are... Your imagination can't help you climb a wall..... Or drive a car for you.

I found Vertigo to be incredibly dull and I love Hitchcock's other films

Top Gun, I don't like. I do like the sequel. I worship Fear and Loathing in Las Veagas, I know some people who really dislike that movie.

I think the point is that he's completely dissociating, like in his head he imagines Brad Pitt doing it when really it's him. And when he's having sex with Marla, he imagines it's Brad Pitt screwing her and he's listening, when really he's the one doing it

Like I say though the whole movie is just weird and dreamy, I don't take it too seriously

Scarface, and I still don't get why people like it, I think it's a thoroughly unpleasant watch

You should absolutely watch the sequels. While fellowship does a good job setting up the world and characters, it is a terribly boring movie. The two towers is great and return of the king is a phenomenal movie

The shawshank redemption was just a little boring to me.

Spy kids and the remake of Charlie and the chocolate factory but I think it's nostalgia and seeing them first as a kid.

Lord of the Rings. That was painful to sit through. I wanted to jerk that ring into the pits of hell after 15 minutes.

I hate Schindler's List (I think it's a shitty schlocksterpiece) and love Manhattan (because it isn't a pro-pedophilia film, it's a character study of a self-loathing narcissistic pedophile with empty ideals).

Respectfully disagree. I was engaged the whole time. So many iconic scenes. The one thing I will say is while Pacino did a good job Tony Montana was not written well. Not a very deep character and not very intelligent. Pacino still killed it though ofc

Remember the Titans. Everyone was in love with this feel good movie about desegregation except me who found it a shallow, inaccurate crowd-pleasing piece of crap. Thanks Disney!

Spirited Away, I've watched it three of four times, appreciate the movie but cannot get to love it as I do with a lot of Studio Ghibli movies.

I don't know if people hate it, but I love The Ides of March. I haven't seen anyone talking about that movie, but if you liked the power dynamics shown in House of Cards and the dark side of politics, give it a try.

Didn't like Reservoir Dogs. Never rewatched it. Never wanted to. Loved some of Tarantino's other films.

Unironically enjoyed Gods of Egypt.

I think you nailed why I didn't like it -- I straight up didn't like Tony and couldn't connect with him (nothing against Pacino, the man acts his ass off in virtually everything he's in). Not connecting with Tony kinda disengaged me from caring about his journey.

Tbf I've only seen the movie once and it was something like 20 plus years ago, so maybe older and more mature me would feel differently on a second viewing.

I mentioned this in a reply to a diff comment but for me I just didn't like Tony. Wasn't a fan at all of the character and the way I watch movies (at least at the time, it's been decades since I've seen it) I just can't get into a movie with someone I see as an unlikable protagonist.

Promising Young Woman (2020) - 4/10

Emerald Fennell's "Promising Young Woman" bore me to death. It was talked up so much by people I knew, citing it as "The Modern Kill Bill." However, it's similarity just made it even worse. I hated the organization of "chapters," especially with the focus on one antagonist in each of them. Other than that, it's whole "turning good guys into good guys" thing at the start was incredibly disappointing. In the trailer, it seemed as if she killed those guys. Instead, she "scared them into sexless bastards." It was overall not a good film.

I Am Sam (2001) - 10/10

Though I would say "I Am Sam" is critically acclaimed world-wide, it is rarely talked about. When you think of iconic portrayals of mental illness, you think of performances such as Edward Norton's in "Fight Club" and Angelina Jolie in "Girl, Interrupted." However, my favorite portrayal of mental illness is barely ever talked about. I can't fathom how underrated this film is. In my opinion, Sean Penn's performance as the title character, Sam, was Oscar-winning. And, it should've won. It was truly his best performance among his most award-winning films of the decade (Mystic River (2003), Milk (2008)).
