Sounds like a Charlie Kaufman joint.

Yea. The trailer reminded me of the last act of “I’m Thinking Of Ending Things”.

Sounds like something David Lynch would make, which makes me very excited

Definitely gonna be like Synecdoche, New York only less philosophical with the existential dread/anxiety cranked up to 11 and some horror influence.

It’ll probably be like if Charlie Kaufman wrote it and Lynch directed it.

Hard pass. The guy is speedrunning that annoying thing when creatives become too acutely self aware of why people liked them, and promptly overdoing and ruining all of it.

Well, he recently called his new film "a Jewish Lord of the Rings" so yeah, it's going to be weird.

It works when they either have a big personality or a huge imagination (world building :p)

I agree. In his own words, this sounds incredibly self indulgent. Maybe he’s bad at pitching movies? But the article leaves me at Hard Pass as well.

I’m excited for it but I wish he would do straight Horror because he is so good at it

I dunno, it sounds like this idea was already gestating in his brain long before his first two movies came out. I don't think he just came up with this after the response to those movies...

I wonder if there will be a scene where the main character screams and cries in grief and the camera remains on them for like 3-4 minutes because of how cheap and easy that technique is to get audiences uncomfortable.

another try hard “deep” horror film that only 19 year old girls will like?

Haha, very funny take on a very possible scene.

Some interesting observations in this:
>"It is his biggest, oddest, and most delirious work yet—and one he’s guessing will be “rejected” by many people on first viewing."
>"It's horrifying, but less committed to scares and more committed to unsettling psychological absurdism. Aster has made the kind of movie that begs to be debated and analyzed. Long, with no easy narrative for viewers to grasp, it's nonetheless an intensely creative work of indelible incredible filmmaking."
>"Watching Beau Is Afraid is an almost distressingly intimate experience, like living inside a panic attack or climbing into someone's subconscious. You have to give yourself over to the dream logic of Beau's existence, where just journeying outside your front door is a terrifying prospect. "I wanted the film to be as subjective as you can get and I wanted the feeling to be like you've been through a person—through somebody's nervous system," Aster says."
>"Aster is prepared for people to have strong, possibly negative, feelings after watching the film. It's a big swing, and he knows it. "I'm expecting it to be rejected by a lot of people on first viewing," he says. “It's doing very weird things and I'm hoping it's something that will grow for people afterwards. I think if people do reject it at first that's not bad,” he continues. “I think that the film almost wants that and then it wants to linger and shape-shift.”
