Essentially, most every film actor out there is a naturalist. If you look at film actors before, say, James Dean, most actors, if not all, weren’t naturalists, but instead were quite stylized and he’s surrounded by naturalist actors. Now the tables have turned. His style is sort of hyper stylized. Either it works in a film or it doesn’t. Take Raising Arizona, Face Off, or any of his other stylized movies - and he’s AWESOME. Sometimes his style just doesn’t fit the material.

Moonstruck. Raising Arizona. Great actor.

I don't think Cage is polarizing. Although many of his movies from the recent past aren't very well-regarded, most people seem to love him, both as an actor and an apparently cool guy.

Yeah, he's been more hit than miss lately. Mandy, Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent, Pig, and Color Out Of Space are all great. He's done some other fun ones like Willy's Wonderland and Mom and Dad as well.

I’ve he’s in a shitty movie, he’s not the reason it’s shity. Plenty of movies have failed to live up to his potential, but he’s never failed to live up to a movie’s potential.

Something that I’ve always noticed is the way other actors talk about him. If you watch actors talk about working with him or any of the Roundtable type things he’s on they revere him, I think they envy the chances that he’s able to take and how free he can be. Personally, big fan. Also this is as good a summary as you’ll ever see

What movies I've watched that he's in I've been entertained, so I think he's a good actor.

It's all subjective, so you do you.

He's definitely a terrific performer, makes interesting choices, and commits to those choices entirely. But is he a good actor? I can't say.

I think he's excellent. Went to the beat of his own drum. Was wildly successful. His films are rewatchable even if not great. So he's not Leo, or Deniro, or Pacino.....well who is? I can't really think of another actor like him and that matters.

Shirley Bennett : [about Nicholas Cage] Maybe he's just good in good movies and then acts crazy in crap to make drug money.

Abed Nadir : But is he good, or is he bad? Every actor is something. Robert Downey Jr., good, Jim Belushi, bad. Van Damme, the good kind of bad, Johnny Depp, the bad kind of good. There's a spectrum, and Cage is on it.
