I'm pretty sure everyone has one of these, a film that you had tremendous love for at one stage, and decided to revisit, only to find that the grim march of time had soured your love for it.

I feel like people are gonna be irked with my choice — but I thought Mallrats was some kinda subversive comedy masterpiece when I was young, then I watched it as a 20-something and it was just an astounding pile of shite. A turkey so substantial that Scrooge couldn't hope to afford it. I was terribly embarrassed, not for myself as a wean having liked it, kids are idiots — but on the behalf of the film.

Rise of skywalker. Thought maybe it was just me.being tired but nope on second rewatch even worse and makes even less sense. Destroyed any hope of Star wars past 9 imo

I'm a no one, wait I'm a Palpatine, wait now I'm a Skywalker but not even related to them. Like GTFO lol

I'm with ya, I'm in the minority of people who really liked the one before, but my watch alarm accidentally going off was about the most engaged I was with the film, TROS was a heap hah

I'm not sure why I'm getting down voted either when it has the lowest cinemascore in history haha. At a B plus which is low for a star wars film. Loved force Awakens and last jedi. Some of my favorites but while rise of skywalker had some good moments it kind of destroys the rest of the Saga imo and calling it rise of skywalker when the last one dies (Ben Solo) killed the franchise for me. He was the best character and poor thinking ahead for the franchise.

I watched it in the cinema and never watched it after because to watch it i have to plow trough the last Jedi and rise of the skywalker. I can redo Force awakens because I'm a sucker for some cheesy fan service but the later two are garbage.

Surf Ninjas. Loved it as a kid. As an adult not so much.

Any movie that you loved as a kid but isn’t Pixar or recommend by an adult is a dangerous path to go down.

Iron Eagle

Loved it when I was between the ages of like 8 and 11 and watched it probably 50 times.

Tried watching it as a 40-year old adult not too long ago and it was a giant piece of shit. Literally one of the dumbest movies with one of the dumbest plots I have ever seen.

I bought my first Walkman because of this movie. I refuse to rewatch at this point. Some things have to stay sacred.

Well, your problem there is all expectations. Mallrats is and always has been a stoner comedy. It has some clever dialogue but mostly it's just a slapstick comedy. And for me, it definitely still is effective. But if you go into it expecting an intelligent subversive masterpiece, of course you will be disappointed. But that isn't the movie's fault, that's expectations.

Huh??? There is nothing slapstick about Mallrats. Kevin Smiths movies are all almost entirely dialouge driven.

Naw I know what the film's like, I watched it, I didn't go in expecting it to blow me away — I just thought it was shite when I watched it again as an adult, that's kinda the point lol

I'm right there with you on Mallrats. When I was 25 I thought it was the snoochiest of boochies. Saw it a couple of years ago and... damn.

Movies like The Prestige or Sixth Sense, knowing the twist from the beginning just kinda kills it for me.

Often times those movies leave tons of little nuggets along the way that land completely differently once you know the outcome. Sometimes it's almost like watching an entirely different movie.

Waiting came out when I was in high school. I assumed the edginess wouldn't age well, but I kind of forgot how many scenes touched on grown men wanting to hook up with high school girls/minors. Like it's not just the subplot of Ryan Reynolds character and the hostess. It comes up another 3-4 times.

Requiem for a Dream

Obv this is not a heartwarming family film. I watched it a decade ago. Now that I’m older with different perspectives and more awareness, I really felt the portrayal of addiction and it’s consequences even more than the first time. Never again 😭

That's definitely a movie where once was enough for me.

Why would you rewatch that? once was enough for one lifetime.

28 Weeks Later.

I watched it first at midnight and nothing made any sense. So I re-watched during the day thinking I was just really tired. Nope, it made even less sense then.

I loved Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, however rewatching it, I don’t get the same enjoyment. I still love the movie, I just don’t think a rewatch will ever replicate what I felt when I watched it the first time

Matrix Ressurections. Didn't love it the first go round, but thought I had to be missing stuff. Rewatch just cemented I hated it.

French Connection...only because it's been copied so many times over the years that it seems filled with cliches now..that's what happens when you make a film so good that it becomes a blueprint for others

under the skin. didn’t like it as much on the rewatch a couple years later and found that disappointing. Still a good film tho
