Bud he's been acting since he was a child. He was nominated for an Oscar and Golden Globe for What's Eating Gilbert Grape at 19. And had been pretty established on the TV show Growing Pains before that. Years before he was in Romeo + Juliet. He was already considered both a Hollywood heartthrob and a highly anticipated and respected actor. But yeah. Every actor has managers and agents. How do you think think the industry works?

Luck, looks, lineage is the usual formal for Hollywood success.

The more you have of one, the less you need of the others.

I'm of the opinion that he's always been a terrific actor, but I could be wrong. And really, he came swinging out the gate in his first movie ('What's Eating Gilbert Grape').

Technically This Boy’s Life was his first movie. It came out 7 months before What’s Eating Gilbert Grape.

Exceptionally good looking in his youth, insanely talented and starred in the biggest movie of all time with perfect timing.

I have heard from actors at the time when he was even a teenager it was always but have your heard about Leo… he was crushing it since then, directors knew then even then how good he was.

He’s probably not a pain in the ass on set, he’s professional. He can act. He knows everyone, he’s been in the business forever. His agent is definitely a good one though.
