Rapeseed oil is the "real" name of what we in North America tend to call canola oil. In fact, "canola" began life as a trademark owned by the Rapeseed Association of Canada[1]. It's made from the seeds of plants in the Brassica family, which includes things like cabbage and broccoli.

[1] I'm resisting the urge to make a "Rape(seed) Ass(ociation)" joke. I'm honestly not sure why.

And thank you for saying so :-) I've been feeling pretty down today, so your message is very much appreciated.

No need to feel down bud, certainly isnt doing ya any good even though some days we cant help it. Idk what's going on or why but if you wanna get some stuff off your chest or maybe get an idea for some advice, a random internet stranger might not be the best but I'll still hear ya loud and clear! Much love, be safe.

Wow — I did not know that rapeseed/canola was a brassica

Yeah, I only learned that myself a couple of months ago! It's pretty interesting how prolific that particular family of vegetables is, as far as things people like to eat go. I think that's why it stuck in my mind enough to pass the knowledge along :-)

Canola is a type of rape seed oil made by cultivating the plants to produce less some type of acid that is considered bad for heart health (or something like that).

Canola name is derived CANadian Oil Low Acid

Absolutely right! Thanks for filling in the details. It's a bit of a weird origin story :-)
