Do you really want a tattoo from someone that's just waiting for walk ins? Sounds like a bad choice to me. If I get a tattoo, the MF doing it better be so busy I gotta plan on advance because they are that good. No way I get a tattoo from a thumb twiddler with ink and needles

What i want is small and simple, so I’m not too concerned. I tried to email and book with the place I wanted to go but never heard back and it’s been two weeks now and I’m just super eager to get it done. Been needing a boost of confidence.

Simple? If they can't make clean lines it doesn't matter how simple it is, it will look like crap. At the end of the day you're going to do what you want, I hope you end up with no regrets

Does it matter? Is Reddit not a free-for-all? It’s a valid warning. Especially if this is OP’s first tattoo. It’s not like they’re getting a little sticky tattoo from the fruit loops box. A real tattoo is permanent, so it’s not something you want to rush. Since some people are older and more experienced, I think they have the right to give their honest opinion. OP can take it or leave it. What do you care?

Tattoos are not something that you should trust to walk-ins.

There’s a reason why you can’t just get one done next week from any tattoo parlour. The artists who do it well are highly skilled, and the services surrounding it to do them safely are pretty strict.

Small or not, it still takes time and skill to do well. You could go for cheap same-day, and you could easily end up with a blown out tattoo and an exciting new infection.

Anywhere, willing to travel. Even out of state within reason would be fine

My recommendation would be to call ahead for any suggestions you get here because some shops have changed their policies post-covid (no longer accepting walk-ins), and just ask what the shop minimum is and maybe book an appointment since even places that take walk-ins can fill up on a certain day and stop taking walk-ins that day. It would suck to drive a long distance only to be turned away!

That being said, I would recommend Bang Bang Body Arts in Northampton MA. I went there for a walk-in a few years ago and it was a great experience

Also don’t listen to the comments advising against it lol. So many places tattoo the same day! My dad owned a tattoo studio when I was growing up. It’s completely normal.

Lucky’s is good for piercings but tbh I wouldn’t recommend their northampton location for tattoos. If you can get on the books for their Boston location that’s a different story- I’ve seen some amazing work come out of that studio.

I know Bang Bang will be able to make a quick mock-up with their system so you’ll be able to see exactly what the tat will look like, and if you’re going to a professional studio I wouldn’t worry about the line art being shaky or blown out. Mine healed great and my friends who have also gone there have had similarly great experiences with both piercings and tattoos. Best of luck!!
