Native Eastern Algonquian names are great. Ponkapoag, Mattakeesett, Nantasket, Neponset, Shawmut, Nahant, Wachusetts, Monadnock.They just sound great to my ears. We should have kept more as town names.

Well see in the 1670's there were a ring of about a dozen "praying" (Christianized) towns, including Mashpee, Natick, and Nonantum, that had thrown in for mutual defense with the English colonists. Some went to Roxbury Latin and Harvard, where they learned Greek, Latin, and Hebrew. But then during King Phillips' War (against other, non-praying communities) the colonists decided they didn't really trust their own local allies, and put them out on deer island for the winter, and they died. (Okay, they forced some of them men to act as scouts, at pain of killing their families.)

Anyway Natick is a cool name, I like it too.

Fun fact, President Taft often visited and stayed in Beverly and the Rose Garden at Lynch Park was part of his Summer home.

Too bad my hometown is going to rack and ruin with over building.

Do you know just how hard it is to get to Beverly? I just wanted to go to atomic and somehow I kept ending up back at Flip the Bird. It might have been because I wanted a spicy chicken sandwich and not coffee, but that's beside the point

So I went to Stonehill which is in North Easton, but anytime I had to tell someone where it, was people thought I went to Northeastern. My Boston accent didn’t help me with this.

I always get a snicker and a raised eyebrow from my wife when the red line announcements say "Entering Andrew"

(after I first wrote that, I started to think I should clarify "when we're on the train and the red line announcer says", but then I realized I get snickers and raised eyebrows at all sort of other times too. Maybe she knows when they announce it even when she isn't on the train)

I think it was established at that date as part of Salem. Going by the established date Boston uses Beverly as it’s own entity would be younger than Boston.

You are correct, it was settled in 1626 as a part of Salem, then incorporated as a town in 1668!
