I’m a new rail commuter since the summer. With all the effort MA is putting into getting me to drop fossil fuels and electrify my home and car, is there a plan to ditch the diesel engines on the commuter lines?

There are no plans. Even if there were plans, it wouldn't happen.

This is how the MBTA "works." They are wholly dysfunctional and unable to even keep the current system up to federal standards.

Do not expect anything they operate to ever get better. It only gets worse.
