Since they bought out Peoples, tried to setup External Transfer, no can do, used out of network ATM, took out $20, they charged $7. I’m pulling out. I have Eastern Bank. They reimburse any fees you incur for an out of network ATM. Setup an External Transfer overnight. I like to have 2 banks, any recommendations? EDIT 12/27/22 Thanks for all the recommendations! I have a feeling others in Mass are also having problems and this may help them. There are a lot of posts under r/Connecticut same topic. I believe more Peoples branches got taken over

Go community bank/ credit union vs large banks. They may not have the sexiest looking website/ app but tend to have the best local ppl in banking. Since the deposits are local they tend to give loans in the community they serve and give back to local charities. Not all Community banks / credit unions are equal. Do a little research. If avoiding fees is your priority, ask to see their schedule of fees and account disclosures. See/ask what are ways to avoid fees. Prior to opening an account. If giving back to community is your thing look and see if the community bank/ credit union is giving back to your community or favorite local charity. If how they treat employees is your thing check and see industry employee surveys like Boston Globe Top places to work.
