Honestly I'd love if there was a reasonable republican who wasn't part of the current GOP. Aka a Baker replacement. One of the best parts of MA has been that we've been a little slower on reactionary politics compared to other deep blue states.

MA state legislature only has 2 republicans so ultimately the legislature has democratic control to do whatever the hell they want, but I do like the idea of some semblance of an outside POV when passing new legislation. The only problem is that the GOP has completely made themselves unelectable and have put themselves on the wrong side of almost every social issue.

I’d love to see this as well. You cannot be too extreme in virtually either direction in this state, despite us being a blue state. Extremists here don’t seem to do well on either side, but the democrats do usually have an upper hand. I think the right Republican candidate could benefit this state.

The main difficulty with Healey, IMHO, is that she is a machine politician. It's been good to balance the excesses of the Democrats in MA with someone like Baker, and that balance will be missed. OTOH, Healey is not Elizabeth Warren. She's a lefty, to be sure, but as someone who has worked the legal system all of her life, she's well aware of the power of institutions in public life. That is, she's a lefty but not a bomb-thrower where institutions are concerned.

Much of the GOP in MA right now with the exception of Baker and his administration seems inhabited by anti-institutionalist MAGA types. I'm a liberal, but I also don't want my government torn down a remade, by either side.

I have voted dem in every election other than governors in the past. I just plain don't like dems platforms for state finances. I'll vote red every time for governor despite my blue leanings

edit: it's not only finances. I flat out dont like how dems support meaningless platforms just to get votes. I dont want my kids to grow up thinking this shit is normal.

There are 30 Republicans in the legislature: 27 in the House and 3 in the Senate. This doesn't change your point, but just FYI.

If there were a socialist or workers party of Massachusetts candidate I'd be voting for them but Healey because... man fuck both parties but fuck the Republicans slightly harder. I know Healy's gonna disappoint me at best.

By this you must mean a person who thinks gremlins fix the climate thermometers, cutting taxes on the wealthy trickles down, vaccines are a hoax, and immigrants cause all of our problems. Or at least someone who sees a party completely dominated by those folks and thinks "my dad was a Republican so I will remain a Republican."

No thanks.

That's basically the problem with the modern GOP and thus makes them almost uniformly unelectable.

Basically the last remaining non psychotic Republicans are ones like Baker who are on their way out.

you realize that genocides start with persecution and othering, eventually leading to eradication right? republicans are aiming to eventually outlaw transitioning entirely. doing so will result in a large number of trans people dying from suicide

Judging by the way CA has gone it’ll take decades for that to happen. They haven’t elected a GOP Governor since ‘06 and their state party has gone more and more right. Seems to me like our state GOP followed suit
