They are purchased at whatever location sells your cigarette brand of choice.

They are not usually purchased while en route to a retirement planning seminar.

I only occasionally grab a scratch ticket because the lottery is a complete scam, so I don’t really care where I buy one from. I feel bad for the folks I see day in day out scratching tickets man, easy way to blow all your money. Wild they even have 30-50$ tickets.

In my state there is a bonus on big prizes at least. I don’t buy except when the jackpot is huge but when I do it is always from one of the local family shops for exactly this reason. The over a billion mega millions sold in my town last year was at a corporate Kroger grocery store but I think they at least did something small for the staff at the store in celebration.

I probably buy 2-3 tickets per year, and only when the jackpot is absurdly high and I happen to be someplace that sells tickets. That's because it's fun to imagine what I'd do with a half billion dollars or whatever. In that case, I buy it where I happen to be when I see the jackpot sign. Most likely it would be at a convenience store I stopped in to buy a gallon of milk or a package store I stopped in to buy some beer. I have never, and will never, go somewhere specifically to buy a ticket.

i walk to the lotto guy a few blocks from my office a few times a week. I do picked that guy because he's nice and i wanted to support him during covid when the rest of the city was closed. now i do because i think its good to get a mid day walk in and hes on a great loop for me. if i win thats great, if i lose at least i got my steps in.

If i somehow won the lotto with never buying a ticket though, i'm pretty sure where it came from would be low on my list of concerns.

Tax on the poor, not the stupid. The lottery aggressively targets lower income neighborhoods which more than likely don’t have access to great educational resources.

It relies on dopamine and desperation not lack of intelligence. If you think you can outsmart either of those you’re not off to a great start.

I only play for jackpots over 350 million dollars and I couldn't care about where I buy my ticket from. It's usually at the grocery store. If I won I'd go back an give a cash tip to the worker, and they would never see me again.

What exactly is it I’m not off to a great start to? While I acknowledge my privilege to have access to education, and therefore never had to deal with desperation, I’ve never experienced dopamine from gambling. If you want to call that outsmarting the strategy, so be it. Point being that it’s an insidious system that claims to use the revenue to help the very people it targets.

Luckily for our small shops, I find them more convenient as well. I'd much rather pop in and out of a corner store or even a place like Cumberland Farms than stand in line at customer service at Stop & Shop or Wal Mart for a damn ticket.

I only buy them in one place. Donut king in Quincy. Whatever money they make in that place is not enough. They make happiness there. they deserve so much more.

I usually buy a single $20 scratch ticket on my birthday and usually from whatever store is most convenient (usually a gas station). I don’t like paying the can’t-do-math tax, but I decided to celebrate on my 18th birthday by buying a ticket and won $100 on it, so I kept a tradition of doing it. I usually lose, but I also won $500 on my 25th birthday, so I’m still going to be ahead for awhile.

I have a friend who loves to play the lottery. He’s never won but been entertained, I suppose.

There’s a potential for addiction. Same as liquor and other habits. Many years ago, I was told a story of an elderly woman who bought liquor with currency that was clearly part of a coin collection. Apparently, this still happens when people really want these things. I find it very sad.

Yes and no. I’m more likely to spend more at a store I I like but ONLY family owned because why give corporations anymore money??? I refuse to buy them at any corporations for that reason bc.. fuck that

I only buy when they get ridiculously high. I usually buy from the new convenience store that opened in my town, just in case it helps them.

It’s a losers game! I never have Good Luck! I did check out the lottery’s winning tickets locations though. Mass lottery.com has a section for each type of games. Example being scratch tickets Or the numbers Game. If you see “view winners” it will tell how much the person won and at what store they won it from ( could be where they cashed it in). You will notice that certain stores are luckier than others. Of course , privacy I guess, they do not list the owner of the winner! Unless it’s the top prize from Powerball .

You might be right. I always assumed $500 because that’s why the old guys taught me to never play a Keno game that pays out more than that because you want to be able to cash out at the bar

That’s right! I watch a guy play 5 of the same ticket on Keno. 5 numbers is $450Same numbers no multiplier. Better chance without it. Hardly ever see a 10 x come up..
