19/20! Fumbled on Framingham and Marlborough

[deleted] t1_jasyjog wrote

That was the one I looked at the most. I picked right but I was hesitant!

savory_thing t1_jatvc0j wrote

Why was Marlborough even on this, it’s not a big town.

What is that mythical lands you show west of Framingham?

Got dinged because I was on mobile and didn't see the question at the bottom, so randomly click a dot. Lol

Still got 18/20.

20/20 - Back in college I used to move cars all over the state for a car rental company.

It's hard without the highways in there for reference!

19/20, tapped Newton for Framingham.

[deleted] t1_jasyuwc wrote

DO another! with lesser know towns. That was fun!

nixiedust t1_jas6ufc wrote

Oddly, I did worse the closer I got to my house. I don't use a map locally so guess I can't recognize towns by shape.

brads99 t1_jauanj6 wrote

18/20, clicked Fitchburg for Marlboro and Taunton for Brockton

Springfield looks too far south.

3

sidran32 t1_jasre1v wrote

Springfield is pretty south. It always surprises me somehow.

5

brownstonebk t1_jasv4s5 wrote

Springfield and Hartford are essentially one metro area.

4

Tacoman404 t1_jaubkp3 wrote

Sort of and on paper sure. The connection isn’t one of a typical metro area. There is quite a bit of work commute between the two or rather from their suburbs to each other, but there isn’t a ton of built up infrastructure connecting them like other metro areas.

1

RickWest495 t1_jasvmzk wrote

Metro regions are not physical towns. It is a combination of cities and towns. The comment was about the town of Springfield only.

0

brownstonebk t1_jaswe8u wrote

I'm aware. I'm an urban planner. I was merely pointing out Springfield and Hartford being part of the same metro to highlight how far south Springfield is. I believe only 25 miles or so separate the two cities. The dot may look too far south to you because the dot itself is probably much larger than the city at that scale.

RickWest495 t1_jatctae wrote

I checked maps and a see the point. But Springfield is also geographically large. And the Mass Turnpike goes through it and people think it is horizontal across the state. It’s not. It goes southwest across the state, but still appears somewhat horizontal. I think it is an optical illusion that fooled me.

0

singalong37 t1_jb0exaq wrote

Southwest from Boston-Sturbridge, then more or less westerly. After Westfield, northwest toward Albany.

2

RickWest495 t1_jb1hyi8 wrote

Yes. Optical illusion. People think is a straight East/West highway. There is a cool video on YouTube about the creation of the highway and why is was built where it is. If crosses the least number of rivers, goes around the most number of hills and saved the most number of buildings possible.

RickWest495 t1_jasxn56 wrote

I see the point. Springfield is on the Mass Turnpike, which appears to cross the state horizontally. It’s actually going southwest. And it’s geographically large. But it doesn’t border Connecticut as someone else said.

−2

Tacoman404 t1_jaubo0n wrote

Springfield is one town from bordering Connecticut.

4

Foxcecil t1_jaunht8 wrote

Springfield is a "essentially" a border town. It practically borders Enfield CT. It is the gates of Mordor.

3

RickWest495 t1_jaunrax wrote

How do you get from Springfield to Enfield without going through Longmeadow?

2

Foxcecil t1_jaup2vs wrote

I fixed it. 91 south feels like you're going from Springfield to CT directly but it actually traverses Longmeadow. Thanks for pointing that out.

1

RickWest495 t1_jaupr4m wrote

It caught me off guard also. I put it further north.

Springfield does not share a border with Connecticut.

0

Ex-Pat-Spaz t1_jatcfr9 wrote

It‘s pretty close.

3

RickWest495 t1_jatcrrz wrote

Close is not bordering. It’s like being a little bit pregnant or partially dead.

Ex-Pat-Spaz t1_jatf4xd wrote

More like being pedantic over a trivial matter or in this case…1 single mile.

3

RickWest495 t1_jatqfhr wrote

No. More like some being fuzzy over something that is fact. Either it is or it isn’t. It’s not a gray area. Facts are not pedantic. It’s like saying that you live on the border of Massachusetts and Maine.
