Is that the sword by which we seek peace?

The look on her face tells me the time for sword has passed, now we're seeking peace by naval artillery

If only our Commonwealth legislators and Governor would come up with some financial support for her. She is the official state memorial for veterans. I guess our elite overlords don't care about veterans.

Wrong USS Massachusetts.

This is the Massachusetts sub and the title is Big Mamie, which is the nickname of BB-59 and that is the ship I was referring to.

Right. But the image in the post and the title of the original post are clearly BB-2. The OG USS Massachusetts. So you're complaining about the upkeep of a ship currently on the seabed off the coast of Florida, all because the title of the the cross-post uses the wrong nickname.
Besides its not like there's much the state can do for BB-59. She was stripped of much of her interior and equipment by the navy when they reactivated the Iowas in the 80's. All they can really do is give her new paint and maybe a new deck like they're giving to USS New Jersey. Anything more would require taking her to dry-dock like USS Texas and that is insanely expensive. Currently she isn't in any need of major repairs like USS Texas so the state is understandably hesitant to send a couple million for a relatively unnecessary dry-docking.

Yes, I know the original post was a pic of BB-2. I was just using the crossposters mistake to vent about the lack of funding for the wonderful museum at Battleship Cove. BB-59 is not currently sinking like the Texas was, but she is slowly losing a battle to corrosion. Considering how much money the Commonwealth wastes every year, a couple million over a couple years for paint and a deck isn't an unreasonable idea.

If you feel so strongly about this then write to the governor. Write to your local leaders. Write to anyone who’ll listen.
In my honest opinion, USS Massachusetts isn’t in bad enough condition yet to warrant any sort of major spending. Her paint looks fine, her deck is worse for wear but what else is new on any of the museum ships with wood decks, she’s missing quite a few pieces but those aren’t likely to be returned anytime soon and fabricating them is difficult. Sure she likely has quite a few leaks in the superstructure but pretty much all the museum ships have those and no amount of money will ever stop them permanently. If anything at Battleship Cove needs money it’s the USS Lionfish. Her deck was so rusted out I felt like I was gonna walk through it onto the hull. The hull also looks terrible I wouldn’t be surprised if she does have leaks below the waterline.

This is BB-2, a pre-dreadnought battleship built in the late 1800s.
“Big Mamie” is BB-59, a South Dakota-class battleship that served in World War 2, and has the distinction of firing the first and last 16” shells of the war.
