Compared to other states, our Medicaid is extremely progressive and widely accepted. We have more generous coverage policies...for things like trans healthcare or those with disabilities, etc.

Only a couple of other states have a more generous Medicaid program, those being NY and CA. And while those states have better reporting and maintaining Medicaid benefits guidelines, their Medicaid programs aren't as widely accepted.

And of course, having Masshealth gives you access to our healthcare providers ; Medicaid wouldn't cover healthcare out of network, and luckily Masshealth members' network includes globally-esteemed MA healthcare.

But "fuck you" is what they'll tell you if you need a (nonemergency) service outside of Massachusetts. In fact, I know someone who was in the DC area and an ER doctor called MassHealth claiming that they needed something emergently, and MassHealth vetoed the doctor and told them to fly back to a Massachusetts hospital.

That's for every health insurance with no out of network coverage, it's not special to Masshealth.

Except that they claim to cover out-of-state emergencies. Based on this experience, I wouldn't be surprised if they kicked you out of the hospital after a car hit you once your vitals were stable. "Need a CT? Fly back to Massachusetts!"

It saved me 7K in dental expenses just in the past year, and I only had to wait about a month to get an appointment.

Thats my personal experience.

The only other state I have experience with is Vermont and what I'd say is that Vermont is cheaper and covers more stuff for higher incomes but the quality care is inferior to Massachusetts.

If you are substabtially above poverty and broke your ankle you'd be better in Vermont. But if you have cancer you way better in Mass.If your with 130% of poverty your're always better in Massachusetts.
