Moved into a nice apartment in Lakewood back in December. Thought everything was going smooth except that my upstairs neighbor’s evening starts when my bedtime begins 4-5 times per week. She isn’t being obnoxious or loud or anything. I’m assuming she is a younger college student or something. I’d probably do the same. When she walks, it’s not just a muffled thud. I can literally hear the laminate cracking. I know the houses out here are old but this is impossible. Last night, I went with ear plugs and sleeping pills and she still managed to wake me up at 2am. I’m literally turning into a zombie and my performance at work is going downhill. How do you all cope?

You can try downloading a white/pink noise generator on your phone and playing it when you goto sleep. Then hopefully any noises she makes won't be so jarring as to wake you up.

Have you talked with her? Not sure what you could say, but you should be able to get some sleep.

I haven’t run into her just yet and I feel like it would be weird if I just walked up there, knocked on her door to introduce myself. I’m not looking to reign down on her lifestyle by any means because I myself will have late nights. It’s just hers are like clockwork.

I think a polite note explaining the situation and asking that she maybe get some rugs would be completely reasonable.

I started sleeping with my TV on for the same reason. Took a little getting used to, but solved the problem.

How loud do you have to keep it?

You can set a sleep timer. I don’t. I haven’t lived in Lakewood in 15 years, but I still sleep with my TV on. As for how loud, that’s up to you.
