Nope - not until real political pressure is applied to the Governor of NJ. Until then, Port Authority will prove minimal viable product.

My hope is once Pompidou opens and they realize how difficult it is for New Yorkers to get there on weekends.

Hell I’ll settle for trains every ten minutes instead of 20 during the middle of the god damn week day on the NWK-WTC line

Best I can do for you is cut frequency again and say it's for your safety

(Real story, PATCO tried to do this a couple of years ago, they said running one train an hour instead of every 40 minutes was safer because more people would be riding each train)

Why just NJ? PATH is managed by both governors.

Really PATH should just be owned by an NJ authority. NY has very little interest in improving the service, and as a result, so does the Port Authority. If it were an NJ commission our complaints would actually mean something.

I saw someone post about this. Basically they said that the PATH is a commuter rail and not public transit because they operate during business hours well, but do f*** all on nights and weekends.

The authority owning PATH does not need to be NJ Transit. In fact nationwide its rare for urban systems to be run by surbaban transit organizations due to exactly what you said. That's why the set up of the MTA is weird.

Ideally it'd be a Hudson & Essex County based authority.

no cause those 20 min intervals on the weekend and midday weekdays are not it 😭

the trains get so packed and since it’s winter we’re all wearing coats it gets so uncomfortable 😩

Pretty sure PATH itself considers itself a commuter rail. Every question on their app survey is about how often do you take the train to work. I’m sure they’ll use the results of the survey to cut weekday service, too.

Eh no NJ governor can win without the support of the suburbs but Murphy absolutely would not have won either term as governor without landslide numbers in our cities. He should absolutely be doing more to alleviate issues with the PATH and seemed to be dedicated to making Newark more of a place of importance in his first term but has since pivoted to try and become more “moderate” in appeal so he can got trounced in the first round of a presidential primary

The PATH schedule is the definition of "We could easily do better if we wanted to... but nahhhhhhh."

And still light years better than the MTA which is the sad part. Yes the MTA has OMNY and a few other things they get sort of right, but the overall quality and experience is not good.
