Hi, I moved from VA to NJ earlier this year. I used to play piano at a hospital lobby as a hobby.

Wondering if there is a hospital with a playable piano or a senior care, or whatever near the area.

I currently live in Palisades Park but my work is in JC. I think I'd prefer JC.

Any input would be appreciated, thank you :)

Unfortunately nothing in JC that I'm aware of but I do know Overlook Hospital in Summit has a music therapy program when I worked there. Might be something worth checking out

I don't have a car any more, so I cannot go that far unfortunately :/ That sounds like a great opportunity though, thank you

I grew up in North Bergen which is sort of between JC and Pal Park, and we would volunteer to sing Christmas songs at the senior citizens care homes there. I’m not sure what homes have a piano though but it’d be worth calling some places, they love volunteer musicians

So I can’t stand my neighbors that I share a wall with. If you’d like to volunteer to piss them off, I’ll go buy a keyboard and set it up to the surround sound. M-F I leave around 630am and I’m back around 6pm. They work from home so the louder the better.

Talk to PeaceCare... my psychiatrist who passed away from COVID used to volunteer and play piano for the elderly residents at St. Ann's and St. Joseph's. If you want a connection there DM me, I will get you in touch with someone. I also know an art teacher who works with St. Joseph's school for the blind.

What a sweet idea! If you need to borrow a portable electric, we have a decent quality one in a closet unused since my daughter quit lessons years ago. My wife works at Hoboken Hospital, I'll ask if there's an appropriate place there. There's also the 'Atrium At Hamilton Park' assisted living facility on 9th st, they have a common room with a piano IIRC.

Great, thank you. Will be contacting both Hoboken hospital and Atrium at Hamilton Park!

I teach violin/cello/orchestra and am bringing students to Alaris Health near Hamilton Park this Sat. We go every Dec, except 2020, and used to bring a keyboard (last year and this year only strings) because they have us play on the 3rd floor and the piano there is TERRIBLE. PM and I can connect you with the recreation director.

I'm sure you can set up your own thing! We just go only once a year because students aren't available on school days / when their parents are working and it's a bit of a project for me to arrange these events.
