I will visit couple friends who live in Japan. What stuff should I bring for them as gifts that are specialty from NJ or JC? Thank you!

TY for the recommendations! Will check them out. How about Mallomars or saltwater toffy?
If you can get them through customs, I think either would be perfect.
Barring that, I think anything Asbury related would be the most identifiably Jersey while avoiding the reality TV connotation that's plagued everything south of Manasquan. Not sure how easy it would be to get anything during the winter, though.
There’s a store called Kannibal & Co downtown JC that has a TON of Jersey City branded odds and ends— postcards, mugs, magnets, shirts. Kitschy stuff that’s really cute for souvenirs!
Bagels! I traveled to London with them with no problem. You might have to go to Hoboken to get some good ones ha
Any stuffed bread from the 2nd Street Bakery.
TY! What is your recommendation? Ive never had stuffe bread from that particular store. Lemme also check if it can go trough custom and if it is still fresh to be carried.
My wife is Japanese and a big hit with her friends is tote bags from The Strand bookstore, Trader Joe's, etc. They don't really differentiate Jersey City from New York City, so anything NYC-related is considered a hometown gift. As much as I love Second Street's and Antique Bakery's stuffed breads, if they make it through customs -- and that's a big "if" -- they'll be stale and worst for the wear after that 12-hour flight. Enjoy the trip, Japan is another -- better -- world.
Fresh mozzarella or some other good cheese
Im also thinking about thosb or imported cheese like pecorino romano from places in Downtown but Idk about custom border in Japan. Will double check. TY so much!!!
Maybe you could bring Lee Sims chocolate or some mozzarella or pasta or sauce from Cangiano’s?
Thats good idea!!! Yes, Im thinking of getting them mozarella/pecorino romano cheese, but never thought of pasta/sauce. That will be great! Thank you so much!!!
Happy to help! Have fun in Japan. I’ve always wanted to go
I’d check out nearby farmers markets or buy some locally roasted coffee.
I go to the Just Jersey store in Montclair and get the NJ shaped pasta. You can also order online from them.
Salt water taffy is also a good choice. I find that a lot of people appreciate local sweets.
Mini bronze Liberty statuettes of course! Most things uniquely Jersey are experiences that cannot be exported.
Cranberries and Taylor ham

Bring Taylor Ham and don't worry about customs because no one believes it's an actual meat product.
Or maybe a small slag of hexavalent chromium. Just a little won't hurt anyone.
Or just find something with "Jersey City" printed on it at Kanibal & Co. Or even go get an Asbury Park t-shirt/beachtowel/whatever.
It's a tough one, because Jersey doesn't have many worthwhile gifts that aren't food.
