I'm sure I have been doing this wrong. Every time I was to go to specific places in Brooklyn accessible by the 2 and 3 trains, I transfer at WTC. But this transfer often seems one of the farthest to do and perhaps I am doing it wrong.

Following the directions for 2,3 I often end up at the Fulton Street station instead of the closer Park Place station. There are no directions that will take you to the Park Place station.

Is there somehow a secret route to the Park Place 2,3 platforms via the E train station I'm missing?

Yes, when you're waking from the path station at WTC walk out into the main atrium take the escalators on the left. You'll go up two flights and see the E stop on your right.

Walk through there and you'll find the 2/3 train in much quicker time than the Fulton st stop.

When at the WTC Path station, follow the signs for the E train station. One of the fastest way to get there is this,

  1. Exit the Path turnstiles.
  2. Walk to the center of the mall where the Apple & John V stores are.
  3. Turn left and go up the escalators one level.
  4. On the upper level you will see a Walgreens and a Starbucks store. Turn right at the Starbucks and walk through the glass doors.
  5. Now you will be at the E train platform, Turn left and follow the signs for the AC 23.
  6. Walk north though the mezzanine hallway until you see a row of turnstiles for the A&C platforms.
  7. On the left of those turnstiles you will see turnstiles that will directly to the 2/3 Park Place platforms. Also there is a globe artwork, around where the 2/3 turnstiles are.

It maybe better or simpler if you use the 1 train WTC station and transfer to the 2/3 at the Chambers St 1-2-3. The WTC 1 train station is directly above the Path station. At the WTC Path station, exit the turnstiles look left where the Path fare machine are, directly above you see a big 1 sign. That's the entrance to the 1 train platforms. Use the 1 train to transfer to the 2&3.

Another benefit of using the 1 train station at WTC is that it’s air conditioned and very clean.

Plus you don’t have to walk though the long hallway/corridor past the E train, which often smells like pee.

Also curious why the signs do indeed send you to Fulton

They don’t!

It’s the whole WTC-Fulton Street station that they want to treat as the “transportation hub”.

If you notice, those 4,5, and J,Z, and 2,3 stations are all called “Fulton Street”. Having the Park Place station of 2,3 as part of the hub takes it away from the whole hub idea. I know, it is silly.
