I know everyone here always talks about how terrible Porta and Ashford are and to stay away but are there any other options if you want to go out dancing?

I was wondering the same thing this weekend. There used to be more options.

Honestly South House isn't terrible if you get it on a good night, but it's more of a bar vibe than club. Doesn't stop me though lol. I've heard Pet Shop is also okay.

Bar Code in Elizabeth is basically a glorified hookah lounge now. The Lobby is the same but slightly better about it. If I had to choose I'd choose the Lobby, but I agree that options are seriously lacking.

You might want to make your way into Hoboken just for the numbers game. If one bar is lame, there's ten more right beside it.

  • Six26 is the thematic and literal flip side of Ashford. Same owners but queer-oriented. Actual dancefloor with sound and lights but narrow and tight. Entrance on Columbus.

  • QXT's in Newark. Proper club with clientele that gets decked out. 80s, goth, and industrial oriented.

I’d agree with above. Six26 is the best local place if you want to find a place to dance any random night. It is queer-oriented but it attracts a pretty wide mix of people. DJ quality has varied night to night.

I’ve only been on the weekend but they might have something going on a Thursday. I think JC is relatively quiet during the week. If you want a Tu/Wed night party you probably need to go into the city.
