So their ancient slicer has been dead for months, apparently unrepairable, but it's not like they're no longer made! Yeah, I know how to slice bread, but a big part of the charm of buying their bread was having it sliced thin and in the freezer to pop in the toaster. Does 2nd Street Bakery have a slicer? I'd have to get out the house before they close at 2 though...

It’s Pecoraro Antique Bakery, not Pecoraro Brand New Bakery.

Fascinating! Even LaGuardia got a mention, tying back to our earlier conversations about Robert Moses. I think I read about 700 pages of that book but I switched to another book it was getting repetitive and I plan on finishing it later.

You probably read the best parts anyway. The abuses that brought him down are important, but less interesting than the earlier stuff.

I think about Moses all the time when the whole housing shortage due to of NIMBYism comes up, the Great Builder must be laughing in his grave.

It’s a theme at Antique - the service has gone downhill. When I order a sandwich I get treated like it’s an inconvenience for them. 2nd street is so much warmer, a nice neighborhood joint vibe. I’ve never seen anyone get their bread sliced though unfortunately.

Ah, the sandwich thing. What gets me is they slice the onions paper thin, and when I ask for more they threaten to upcharge me. For a fucking slice of onion! I miss the Monmouth St Deli.

I recently ordered a prosciutto sammy from 2nd street and the prosciutto was cut so thick i could even chew it. It was like prosciutto gum

Mmmmm. You got a pig jerky sandwich! I love dried out meat, give me those wings that have been sitting in the steam table all day!

This is almost certainly a lie.

The most likely scenario is that it's simply cheaper for them to not use it, and they've used it breaking as an excuse to do just that.

I'm stunned that you're even more cynical than I am. Nice to know I haven't bottomed out yet...
