Cleaning out from a hoarder tenant and have found 6 bike frames, a dozen+ wheels, scores of handle bars/forks, plus lots of gears, chains, and other non-bike assorted metals/tools (maybe Amy DeGuise once lived here?). Anyone got a lead on someone who would make use of this (as art or scrap)? Not looking to sell, just would love to see it recycled or upcycled instead of landfill (or paying for a dumpster).

If you want, shoot me a DM. I'd love to see what you have. I love to fix up bikes and give them away. Really depends on what kind of shape they are in.

I also know a bike mechanic that custom builds bikes from recycled parts. Sure he would love a donation and he has a pickup.

Thanks for the pics. I take back my suggestion of Recycle-A-Bicycle... definitely looks like scrap (or material for an art project, as you mentioned).

I see scrap metal collectors driving around JC pretty often, but not sure how they work: if they drive around looking for stuff on garbage collection days, or mostly work from tips / word of mouth. If you don't have other leads, you could try putting some of it out in the afternoon of your trash collection night and see if it gets picked up. If yes, do another batch the next week. If not, you'd have to pick it up off the curb & probably pay for removal. Good luck!

If the bike stuff is in decent shape (not too beat up & rusty), Recycle-A-Bicycle in Brooklyn might take it.

Yikes! Yeah, if you posted a few photos, folks could help you decide if it's scrap or worth saving. I'm about at my limit for bikes but would consider storage for the right hoard!

You missed the point of trying to give away junk, it's supposed to be less work not more! Having you take one or two and leave him with the pile of crap is not the goal!
