A lot depends on where south is. If it's to the left or straight ahead it looks like you have some pretty good light. Me, I'd plant it up with produce both in the ground and in containers on the cement. We gave up on a postage stamp lawn when the kids were too old to play on it, and recently did the chips with the flower and coleus bed.

South is pretty much directly straight back & slightly west. The front of the house faces N/NE. Nice pot collection!

Hmm, hard to tell how much shading you're getting from the neighbor trees. But my raspberries do great right up against the neighbor's garage shading them all afternoon. Only problem is the mosquitos love lurking in them making picking a hazard!

Whiskey barrels are great, about $30 and you can simply screw a trellis to them to grow green beans, cukes or climbing zucchini.
