I'll soon be living in a narrow townhouse and want to really make something special of the 60' long backyard. I know there are a lot of skinny yards in JC so I'm hoping y'all can share some really exceptional landscaping you've done to your own space, or that you've seen others do. Thanks!

Here's the yard:

A lot depends on where south is. If it's to the left or straight ahead it looks like you have some pretty good light. Me, I'd plant it up with produce both in the ground and in containers on the cement. We gave up on a postage stamp lawn when the kids were too old to play on it, and recently did the chips with the flower and coleus bed.

South is pretty much directly straight back & slightly west. The front of the house faces N/NE. Nice pot collection!

Hmm, hard to tell how much shading you're getting from the neighbor trees. But my raspberries do great right up against the neighbor's garage shading them all afternoon. Only problem is the mosquitos love lurking in them making picking a hazard!

Whiskey barrels are great, about $30 and you can simply screw a trellis to them to grow green beans, cukes or climbing zucchini.

Borrow a drone and go on a tour of the neighborhoods for ideas and inspiration. Alternatively, do it the old fashioned way by using Google Maps, Satellite View.

Ha, a straight down arial view will only get me so far. And a drone through the backyards, well. Maybe not the best way to introduce myself to the neighbors.

Depends on what you plan to use your yard for, everyone is different.

Do you have kids or a dog?

Do you want to do a vegetable garden or some plants?

Are you looking to host outdoor bbqs?

What are your must haves? Space for a grill & dining or do you want an outdoor couch and a fire pit/chininea?

Also, take a look at /r/landscaping or /r/gardening for some inspo

There's enough sun for a garden. Or you could do an outdoor kitchen with a lounging area. If you have kids you've got plenty of room for a swing set. You could even fit a decent size pool in there. The possibilities are endless!
