1.5 with precheck and 2 without to be safe. At least that’s what I do, Friday morning could be busy
Which Terminal? If you're not flying United, I've found that Terminals A&B never have precheck open. Almost missed a flight last year because it took forever to get through security. I'd definitely suggest 2 hours.
Honestly if it's international, 2½ is my go-to. Because sometimes that can take longer.
7:45am flight - arrive at the airport around 4am
Arrive early and have breakfast. Being late sucks.
But if you have clear or airline status + pre-check, 1.5 hours is fine.
2/2.5 hours works.
5 am
2 hours is the answer. Worst case, you are just in time. Best case, you are just in time to have a small meal and a cocktail before boarding.
Terminal A is brand new as of a month ago and now actually has Precheck and Clear options that are open and work.
1h before if you feel lucky. 2h if you're normal. 3h if you are risk averse.
Dad, is that you? Did you get the milk?
Maybe if you're international, but I doubt check-in and security will be busy at that time.
Nah 7:45am flight you should get there at 3am for international.
Around 5:30
My standard has been 3 hours. I'd rather be early and then chill than have a stressful photo finish. It can be difficult to predict because I've taken flights between Newark and Toronto and have taken similar time flights and have seen 0 people at security or a 1hour+ line, there is no in-between.
Yeah agreed for international would definitely budget more time
At least an hour before but probably more if you don’t have pre-check. If you are taking an Uber or Lyft I would schedule a ride in advance and give yourself about 20 min of travel time during non rush hour traffic
Flew out a few times and they only had one lane with huge lines. Took over a half hour to get through.
This is the correct answer.
I fly from EWR to Chicago every month for work and always have flights around this time. Domestic flights usually board 40 minutes before the takeoff time so I get to the airport about a half hour before boarding. I have precheck. I do the same thing coming home out of O’Hare which is always a zoo at any hour, and I’ve never had an issue making my flight at either airport. However, I don’t ever check bags, but my colleague does and gets to the airport an hour before boarding. She’s never had an issue either.

I always aim for 2 hours before. Never missed a flight. Usually I have enough time for a coffee and a bagel inside and then all of sudden boarding happens.
