A Jersey City man who was injured in a fire at his Downtown home Sunday afternoon has died, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said Tuesday afternoon.

Scot “Goat” Rienecker, 50, was unresponsive when he was pulled from the two-alarm blaze at 309 10th Street by Jersey City firefighters. He was initially taken to the Jersey City Medical Center and the transferred to the Burn Unit at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, where he died at 8:28 p.m. Monday.

Rienecker had voice roles in two animated television series, MTV’s Downtown, which aired in 1999 and Megas XLR, a Cartoon Network show that aired in 2004-05. Megas XLR revolved around a robot from the future found in a Jersey City junkyard. Downtown was nominated for Primetime Emmy award.

Goat and I killed more brain cells while sitting next to each other at dive bars than the total brain mass of any 12 Jeopardy contestants combined. He didn’t deserve to go out like that. It’s a sad, sad day.

Bit of a tangent but what are the rules around egress in JC. I'm on the third floor and I bought a fire escape ladder I can keep in my room after a downstairs neighbor fell asleep with food in the oven. Without the ladder firefighters would have to get into my backyard to even know I was needing help.

As a reserved nerdy kid from like upstate suburbs its an honor you knew and partied with him, he sounded like he was a super fun guy and he was a big part of the energy of mtv's downtown that made hanging in the city with fun cool weird people seem like a really awesome way to live your life. I'm glad I have homeys in JC. It might sound weird but cartoons helped change my life and help me see that life is for having fun and shit, you know

While many of the things in Downtown were based on real life places and experiences, Goat was the truest of the true. That was “Goat Prime.” It captured him at his most Goatness.

Damn RIP. Goat was a cool dude, used to bump into him all the time hanging around downtown back in the day. Chilled in his apt once while he tatted a friend of mine. Pouring one out.
