The intersection of Jersey Ave and Grand St is a death sentence waiting to happen.

At least once a week, I'll be crossing Grand on foot, and a car turning eastbound will cut me off mid-crosswalk and speed away. If I don't get hit one day, it will certainly be my dog, a child, or a person on their phone not paying attention.

The only time I feel remotely safe is during school hours when they'll staff a crossing guard. But otherwise, it's a free for all.

Good thing the intersection is right next to a hospital!!! /s

This intersection has been a shit show for years. We're on vision zero influenced V2. The bridge through LSP to 78 has not helped one bit, nor the additional hospital construction. It's still unsafe and awkward to use for pedestrians, cars, and bikes trying to use it.

One time in a tread here someone demanded I couldn't possibly know it was dangerous without a traffic study, which got me pissy because ANYONE WHO HAS WALKED ACROSS THAT INTERSECTION GETS IT. It probably needs a left turn arrow from Jersey onto Grand, probably needs raised cross walks, probably needs speed bumps or other calming measure further back in all directions, probably needs a full cycle of red for cars and walk for pedestrians. Probably also needs a crossing guard posted for all rush hour times.

Truly a nightmare crossing this street. Everyone is always in a rush. So many directions of cars that can hit you.

Street is too big also

These are mostly out of town drivers. Only solution is NYC style traffic cams and live law enforcement.

That one is pretty bad indeed. I'd also add Marin/Columbus and Marin/Gangemi to the list. It's ridiculous that pedestrians fear for their lives while crossing a street.

When I was at JCMC emergency department we had multiple people come in who got struck at that very intersection! Couple bicyclists and a pedestrian, different days.

ETA: I was only there for a couple weeks so you can only imagine how often it must happen

Oh boy, I get panic attacks just thinking of this crossing section.

You also forgot that every single car will stop ON the crosswalk, instead of 5 feet behind, blocking pedestrian out of the “safe zone”.

Once I had a guy who wanted to make the left towards LSP, but obviously couldn’t, so he literally stopped even further from the crosswalk. He then realized his mistake WHILE I was crossing with my stroller, and he started backing up and almost sandwiched us with the other car behind. I don’t think I yelled louder in my life.

Rant over.

The proximity to the hospital actually makes it worse, as you never know when an emergency vehicle or three will show up to add a little extra spice.

They need a a pedestrian crossing light that is separate and then no pedestrians can cross during the typcal lighta. It is so unsafe and so many drivers are running red lights.
