Hello everybody. I'm thinking of replacing our dated, temperamental steam heating system with a efficient hot water system and I'm looking for plumber/hvac recommendations. Much appreciated.

Hello everybody. I'm thinking of replacing our dated, temperamental steam heating system with a efficient hot water system and I'm looking for plumber/hvac recommendations. Much appreciated.
I also used Guarini for multiple visits. Great, professional, experienced people.
Also worth mentioning that they fixed my heat this week and they actually found the issue which was different than what PSEG thought it was.
I’ve found PSEG’s repair folks to be so-so.
PSEG’s repair program exists mainly to service government contracts (housing authorities etc.). It’s not about quality work, it’s about contracts. Their side hustle is direct to consumer maintenance contracts, which are their version of Best Buy’s extended warranty. Their money comes from getting people to sign contracts not from doing work.
Basically as a customer, they’re always going to rip you off, just a question of how badly. But their number is in every bill, so if that’s the max effort you’re willing to put in, that’s what you get.
They are super pricey.
I’ve actually found them to be more reasonably priced than DMC, who are based in Bayonne and also do a lot of work around JC.
Keep shopping around and compare.
Is there someone you would recommend instead?
No.
Ryan has been very good for us, used them for a new tankless heater and ductless AC. They have always been responsive when he had issues as well.

Kook and Sons. They are excellent to work with
Have also had a good experience with them.
I find that Kook & Sons does great work but I have never failed to be charged more than expected. I had my mom call them out to fix a pedestal sink that was not properly attached to the wall (installed by someone years ago and just held on by silicone and a prayer).
Kook sent two guys, and she was charged for both their time even though one guy did nothing but stand in the doorway and gossip. They also did not have everything they needed, despite knowing what they were coming out for, so they had to run out and buy it or get from their shop. They charged her for the time they spent going back and forth to get the stuff they didn't bring with them.
I had a couple of similar experiences where they price ballooned higher than the original estimate, though in one of the cases I understood why the job was more complicated than it was originally thought.
I completely trust the work they did, so I would recommend them to anyone needing work, but I always make sure to mention the price might be higher than other companies.
General Plumbing Supply store is down on the Bayonne border. There are dozens of plumbers go through there, not sure how you find a good one. Maybe if you ring them?
