So the 14 pro max has an A16 chip that will keep the phone performing better and for longer than the A15?

It will get supported for longer by Apple. As in, will get Updates longer, because it’s newer. Though to be fair, the A15 will get supported for a while yet, too- to judge by Apples excellent update policy.
