Pics shouldn’t be grainy, first try a different photographic style and make sure the lenses are clean. If none of that helps you may have an issue with the camera.

The old 12 mega pixel cameras were optimised better with the software… the new 14 Pro 48 mega pixel camera’s probably need some time for software to catch up.

I just watched a Mac Address video on YouTube about this. Their conclusion was that the 14 Pro is best when pictures are taken in RAW, and based on what I've seen, I agree.

It's not the camera, it's the processing on the software if you want a temp fix you can use the ProRaw mode but that will make super big image sizes or just wait till the software fixes that

I toggled manual macro mode so it doesn’t auto so it. Also turned off lens correction. Seems to have help some of the blur I get when I look at photos on my PC

Use ProRAW I stopped letting my 13 process the photos because the processing just wasn’t that good when I first got it last year. I prefer the more realistic unprocessed look that ProRAW gives plus if I wanted I can edit it on my phone/iPad/PC if I feel like touching up something later.

I believe it’s like 20MB a photo compared to 2MB a photo so takes up about 10 times the space but I have a 512GB iPhone, 2TB of iCloud storage, and 100TB on my NAS at home so I’m not hurting for storage and it doesn’t affect me as I offload all my photos to my NAS so if I ever run out of device or iCloud storage I can just remove some as they are all on my NAS.

Go to Settings - Photo - turn off View Full HDR.

I've just jumped from 11 Pro to 14 Pro. I dont feel like the photos are worse, but I'm not seeing any marked improvement just yet.

I haven't really put it through its paces yet, mind. So there could be more to gain from it. But even RAW photos dont seem much better - i.e. I cant pull under exposure information from them like I could my DSLR (or even Sony RX).

This is not a universal experience. I had an 11 Pro for about 2.5 years. I just moved into a 14 PM. Pictures are great in my experience. I’ve not taken a ton yet, but the initial ones are absolutely fine. I would hope/expect with all the negative feedback they are getting regarding the post processing that they will be gradually improving it over the next year or so in the updates.

I can’t stand it!! And it weighs a ton, hurts my wrist to hold after a while … As far as photos, my experience is they’re waaay too contrasted. You can see it in your camera roll, for a split second the photo appears as it does when you’re taking it, then something happens and it over sharpens/contrasts. That exacerbates imperfections and looks artificial

The only way I can see “fixing” this is to use ProRAW and learning how to do the color correcting, contrast, sharpness etc….yourself. The processing is what I think you don’t like which is understandable. Thats why they made the regular iPhone 14, for people that just want to point and shoot, not necessarily tinker with settings.

All iphone photos have a weird brownish tint to them, compared to Samsung's clear and crisp vibrant photos. Use both as my daily drivers.

The problem comes (I think maybe) from the processing of the software and the fact that the physical lenses are larger.

I upgraded from a 13 Pro to a 14 Pro and pictures are great. When not shooting in RAW, there’s only a small improvement. But photos in RAW are much better on the 14 Pro.

I think the pro has the macro setting. My pictures are perfect after using macro on a 14 Pro Max. You gotta use macro if you’re close to anything 😂

Make sure you have turned off Live Photos (the icon is in the top right corner of the screen), because even though they can be fun sometimes, the image quality really suffers.

Just try yourself and compare. Actually, maybe they've improved the feature, I haven't used it for quite a while now, but I definitely remember Live Photos were noticeably worse a year or two ago, if you compare with a regular photo on a bigger screen. That was the reason why I've stopped using it.

I back this up. Live photo affects the image quality when the light conditions are less than ideal, because it limits the shutter speed to minimum, when possible, which doesn't allow as much light to be captured by the sensor. You may notice that live photos are automatically turned off in night mode, and it's because the iPhone cannot keep the shutter speed low enough and just disables live photos in exchange for a longer exposure.

In ideal light conditions, the difference is negligible.

I never used Live Photos much in the past so I turned it off until recently. I’ll have to look and see if anyone else has some evidence. It wouldn’t surprise me if there was an issue though.

In his other video you he also described why it’s so bad, basically comes down to software. You are actually better off taking a photo with iPhone X and below devices because that’s when Deep Fusion is turned off.

An ok fix for you at the moment is to basically take only raw photos. That way the photo you take will still look bad (the jpeg preview will have Deep Fusion baked in) but you can rescue the photos you really love by “developing it”. You can use most editors you like, but the two I use which is Lightroom and Darkroom. Both have an option to turn off Deep Fusion (in darkroom it’s called tone map and in Lightroom it’s called profile). Then you can re-export the jpeg without the junk (I.e Deep Fusion).

Exactly, he said it’s best for all the other things that it does, including video, user experience, speed, white balance, etc. For photos it was ranked 11th (or something like that forgot exact number).
