I understand what you mean. But maybe the point of apps is that you need to have elements optimised much better than websites - eliminating the need to zoom on things. What you still might want to zoom into is things like pictures - which you have to tap to open 'view' mode to zoom in.

That's a good point. Apple's design philosophy does treat apps special making all apps appear the same on many different devices.

However, I am simply suggesting Apple innovate on what they started. Instead of just re-inventing the same device every year.

Like you mentioned tapping to open 'view' mode to zoom in. I've given further thought how it would work. Like placing a finger along the edge of the screen then pinch zooming with your other hand. Or using a new creative gesture. By holding your thumb at one point on the screen and using your index finger like your pinching a knob, moving your index finger on an arc, from left to right to zoom in, and right to left to zoom out.

Which reminds me of something I heard years ago. The future of hardware is software. It's only limited by our imaginations. I just hope eventually enough people will see this and agree, and come up with better ideas.

Agreed, there could be a better software solution to this.

Yeah zooming into pictures is nice and useful.

I just don't like having to force enlarged text size everywhere. This forces me to scroll more everywhere, with less info displayed per screen. This is also not supported in all apps.

Needless to say when you get older you may be far sighted, or near sighted.
Unfortunately, for me I'm far sighted and have trouble reading small text up close (unless I hold my phone at arms distance). I also don't want to be forced to wear glasses every time I need to look at something on my phone.

This is why I think pinch zooming within apps would be a great option for all users. I even know where it belongs, under "Settings > Accessibility > Zoom > Enable Zoom within Apps".

I really think a lot of people would find this helpful in a "pinch". Wishful thinking I guess.
