Here is a chart showing iPhone market share in Europe. In Germany, only 30-40% use the iPhone

Since iPhones are less popular in Germany compared with other countries like France, the UK, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, and especially the US and Canada, what do the Germans think of iPhones and why iPhones are less popular in Germany with Germans instead opting for Android devices?

Please don't say that iPhones are not popular in Germany because Germany is poor. That is totally wrong. In fact, Albania, a much less developed country, has a higher iPhone market share than in Germany and Germany is one of the wealthiest and most developed countries in the world.

I think it’s because Germany isn’t such a rich country. Probably they can only afford other brands there like Samsung or Huawei

Not a German, but I believe it has something to do with free open source software. And this is not something Apple is renowned for.

Other times there have been cases where Microsoft Windows (and Office) have been replaced with Linux and Libre office (or was it Open Office).

This has nothing to do with not being "rich enough." Most Android smartphones are just as expensive as the iPhone. Many people here in Europe or Germany at least get their new phones with a 2 year contract. The big difference here is that people don't rely on iMessage, so you're not stuck on just using iPhone.

Most people I know and see on trains/buses are using the latest Samsung Galaxy S devices and like the design and all the features the device has to offer.

Because people tend to stick with one brand.

Samsung users tend to stick with Samsung, Apple users tend to stick with apple etc. A lot of people just hate Apple and it doesn't matter whether it's justified or not (sometimes it is).

Idk if Germans are more ignorant/stubborn about this than people in other countries though.

I mean it’s only the 4th richest one in the world with a gdp per capita nly second to the US and all that.

Naturally with that level of poverty they can’t afford iPhones. /s

Are you this uniformed? I mean even a basic high school education could have taught you this

Possibly the Germans focus on function over comfort, in this case comfort being what’s the trendy device to have. In the UK where I’m from, the IPhone is considered a must have for the casuals, where as you can imagine the more practical minded Germans don’t give a fuck!

May be people are not sheep in Germany. They are knowledgeable in tech and know what they need unlike others who just buy what the majority is buying and don’t put any thought into it. Germans probably realised Android is the better software and the premium price you pay for an overpriced iPhone is not really worth it. Bring on the downvotes.

I am a German and since the 14 Line Up showed up, they get more expensive than the 13 Line up (For example iPhone 13 costs 799 € [899$] and the 14 now 999€ [799$]. ) This is because for one 1 $ you got actually 0,94 € … So everything gettin more expensive and apple thinks, they can bring the difference in, getting more expensive in Germany

And thats why, other Manufacturers are „cheaper“. Myself are using a 12 Pro, wich was 1200 € in 2020. And if must look at the 14 Pro, 128 GB is now by 1500€ and 516 GB is by 2000€ here.

Maybe i will Pause iPhone for a few years and get back, when it is more „cheaper“ to get.

for once Germans look as smart as Italians I'd say: iPhones are overrated and overpriced and with Samsung now guaranteeing 5 years of updates there is not even the long term support excuse for choosing an iPhone anymore.

Let me put it this way, today December 20 2022, you want to buy a new phone, what do you choose between a Samsung S22 at 680 Euros and an iPhone 14 at 400 Euros more? in terms of specs the difference of price should be reversed.

needless to say, iPhone user here ROTFL

A German will only buy the first iPhone when he/she has money for the third. Seen the price of the newest iPhone is getting more much more expensive every year (when you compare it against other brands), it takes quite some time to achieve that.
