Also we need a settings app shortcut in control center

One of the main things I miss from Android. I'm surprised Apple still has this limitation.

I still miss 3D Touch, literally dozens of us that remember it at this point.

How often do you find yourself adjusting an app’s settings within the settings app? Most of the apps I use have barely anything in there and instead opt for having a settings page within the app itself

Haptic/3D Touch got downgraded so badly. For example it used to show 4 favorite contacts when you pressed the phone app, now it’s useless settings. This applies to almost every stock ios app.

Worst part is when you need a flashlight, on the X you could just grab your phone and press the flash on your lockscreen with a little force and it would shine, on the newer iphones you have to hold it for a bit and it is very easy to misclick

To change notification settings or permissions for those apps. You have to go to settings and scroll/search to get to the app’s system settings. If they had an App Settings option in the long press menu, it could take you directly to that screen.

man i miss my 6s, i got it for my 12th birthday and i used it until 3 months before my 18th. 16gb and beat to shit with a loose (uncracked)screen and rocking 12.1.0 in 2022 it was such a good phone. still would rather have a 6s than my 14 pro

3D touch was great, I used the shortcut for the app switcher quite often because it was just so easy to use. I’ve been without a home button for a couple months now and I still can’t open the app switcher first try half the time.

Honestly, 3D Touch was a good part of why I held on to my 6s as long as I did. Really loved the feature; it’s simple to use, effective and its tactile-ness with the haptic feedback and “pop/push” or whatever the marketing term was, made it so pleasant to use.

navjot94 t1_j1evlcr wrote

Most are not gonna do that and i don’t think devs can invoke the system settings from those shortcuts. They likely only allow you to trigger intents for your own app- but I could be wrong.

This would be useful for example, bc you could quickly toggle permissions for apps or turn notifications on/off for those apps. This is also in line with iOS behavior in other situations. For example if you swipe to “options” from a notification, all the menus that pop up there include a “view settings” option. Should work the same way on the Home Screen, that just takes you to that app’s system settings page.

It was nice but because no iPad supported it it never was used for anything substantial. I quickly stopped using it on my iPhone because it didn’t work on my iPad anyway and as soon as I got used to it I automatically tried using it on the iPad and it didn’t work there.

That’s it’s own problem too. Or apps getting to determine whether or not you have a way to delete their cached data instead of that being a system-wide ability like it ought to be

I literally thought about this today while attempting to access the general settings for Twitter then quickly realizing there's missed opportunity. It'd be so convenient, and an easy fix to improve UX instead of going through and extra 20-45 seconds of taps and swipes. It sounds entitled and negligible, but this shouldn't require a groundbreaking software shift to complete- I'd expect it to have been done already.

Apple really has a massive downfall on software quality these days. I wish Steve would have let the doctors to operate him 💀

I really miss 3D Touch. I still like the way iOS operates without it, but it’s not the same. Would be cool idea to access settings too by long pressing an app.

to properly turn on off wifi or bluetooth, we need to open settings app, to put phone in low power mode, again settings app. to open any app's settings, again settings app. to change other volumes, again settings app.

total bullshit from apple. the dropdown sta tus bar is a wasted potential

This ^^ especially with the camera, I use my phone quite a lot at times during work, where I have to quickly take a photo and then shove my phone back into my pocket and then get it out of my pocket to take another photo again (and yes, I like to lock my screen after taking a single photo), and this goes on continuously for an hour or more, recently just switched from XS Max to 14 Pro Max and it seriously slowed my workflow, and just the overall lack of confidence when long pressing the camera icon from the Lock Screen to make it launch the camera, is just not a good feeling

I totally agree. I have thought of this many times. It’s so obvious that apple should implement this and would be so easy to do so. I really hope they do! Please apple be lurking on this post!

Why not? It looks nice.

Besides, why is that relevant? This is the UI of that person’s own phone, and each person’s device ought to be tailored to what they like. It’s their phone, they like it. Your negativity isn’t relevant.

beep_beep_bop_bop t1_j1h6j84 wrote

Totally agree. I just use long press to access battery settings now. Doesn’t add any value for anything else.
