I have had iPhone XR for 3+ years and it has been great. It has LCD screen instead of OLED which is what all the new iPhone models have.

I played around with regular iPhone 14 the other day at Verizon store for like 5-10 minutes and i noticed that because of the display being more crispy and brighter, I felt more eye strain compared to my XR.

Has anyone experienced something like this with the new iPhone models? Am I just imagining this? I could do with a new phone but it would be a bummer if I can’t use it because of eye strain. How can I deal with this?

Use the reduce white point feature. I found that really helped with eye strain, especially in the dark.

It’s very possible you have a slight sensitivity to PWM (pulse width modulation) which is how the phone controls brightness.

Did you just end up keeping the 14 pro max? How are your eyes feeling now?

Yes I’m not super sensitive to it but when switching phones my eyes feel less heavy if that makes sense. I honestly had no idea anything about PWM I’m just now finding out what it is hahaha

So I’m guessing your eyes got used to it?

I had eye strain and migraines when I first got my 12 mini. I played around with various settings but the cure was turning off the needs attention and Face ID features - turns out I'm sensitive to the infrared they use

I had the same problem when I first switched from and LCD iPhone to an OLED iPhone, I eventually got used to it
