The screen of my phone as well as the back is cracked. If I turn it in in the Apple Store, will they repair the phone, or will they replace the phone? Furthermore, if they indeed repair the phone, how many days will the repair take approximately?

Hi mate, it fell and it shattered the back, the screen is also damaged but not totally damaged
Particular_Raise_360 t1_iy7zz94 wrote
Yeah, they can definetly repair that.

Thanks - the reason I asked is that, if they replaced it instead of repairing it I needed to transfer my data as I would have a new phone and lost the data otherwise

Back it up to a computer or iCloud before you bring it in (which u should be doing anyways).

I'm pretty sure that Apple does what they call a rear system replacement for a shattered back on a 13. This retains the screen and the camera system from your phone and replaces Since you also have a shattered screen, it may be that they just replace the whole phone, but I'm not sure.
If they do a rear system replacement you will definitely need a backup.

If front and back glass are cracked it will be replaced for $58 under applecare+ or $99 under applecare services.

They do have a method for fixing back glass but it will be more fragile after the repair and likely break again

Does that mean you’ll get a new refurbished phone? Trying to figure out if I will lose my phone for repair for a couple of days or that I will get a new one. Apple support doesn’t seem to have the answer
COUCH-- t1_iy8yc76 wrote
As a former Assurant phone repair person, depending if you have insurance through your carrier the industry standard deductible is like 99 dollars they send you a certified refurbished phone
COUCH-- t1_iy8yh7y wrote
Without insurance like device protection 360 or apple care plus you might be on your own or pay like 300 plus for repairs at a shop
COUCH-- t1_iy8ysq4 wrote
Usually they will send the refurbished phone to you via mail with a return label and you have X amount to time to send the broken one back or they will charge you

If the rear and front are cracked they’ll swap it replace the front and back. It’ll be $99 $58.

If the display is damaged it’ll be replaced.

If front and back are damaged it will be replaced, but if they only did the back it’ll be erased anyway. Backup your data.

Current rate for front and back glass damage is 58$.
Gorthaurl t1_iy9ubyh wrote
No, they’re not going to repair that. That’s two major repairs and they’re forced by the software to swap the phone.
Source: used to work there
Gorthaurl t1_iy9ul67 wrote
Not true. A broken back glass need a rear system repair. That’s a whole swap for everything but the screen and the camera module.
Gorthaurl t1_iy9uqln wrote
It would be a whole unit replace, so 99$.
COUCH-- t1_iy9v81w wrote
Apply policy doesn’t allow repairs for the back glass for their insurance. Especially for any damage on or near the camera. The 13 also is very particular with how apple wants them repaired. Basically if he walks into his phone carrier and uses the insurance or apple care plus they are gonna ask for a deductible and do a whole device replacement.
Gorthaurl t1_iy9vdej wrote
Sooo that’s what I said. No method for fixing back exists for the iPhone 13.
COUCH-- t1_iy9vjew wrote
They have a laser repair at third party shops but it’s expensive and makes the back glass likely to break again is what I was referring to
COUCH-- t1_iy9vo6x wrote
But that also depends on the customer and if the wireless charging is damaged
Gorthaurl t1_iy9vp11 wrote
We’re talking about official Apple stores here.

Correct, and the going rate for front and back glass damage is 58$. It’s 29$ for front or back damage, 58$ for front and back, and 99$ for all other damage.
Gorthaurl t1_iy9x1w2 wrote
Not in my country at least. When there are two major damages that’s a whole unit replacement at 99€.
iridescentsocks t1_iy9yh5e wrote
What country is that? Do you not have eligibility for 29$ back glass only repairs either?
Gorthaurl t1_iy9zt4q wrote
Yeah we have it, but when there are two glass repairs we needed to change everything.
Josh_Butterballs t1_iya0h3o wrote
Friend who works at the store just confirmed with me front and back glass damage would just be a full unit swap and that would be $99 under apple care+ (USA). If just the rear, then it’s a rear system repair for $29 UNLESS they have AppleCare SERVICES which is basically just AppleCare through the carrier. In that case the rear system repair would be $99 as if they are swapping the whole phone.
iridescentsocks t1_iya0ip5 wrote
Unfortunate. I don’t know of many regions that still charge 99$ for anything other than liquid or catastrophic damage.
iridescentsocks t1_iya2w14 wrote
If they told you it’s 99$ and they’re in the US they’re using the incorrect classification and damage rate. Front and back glass damage only is a 58$ replacement and has been available for over a year. They are correct that AppleCare Services doesn’t have the same benefits of the current AppleCare+ agreement.
Josh_Butterballs t1_iya7h05 wrote
He sounded pretty confident, but I’ll ask him about the $58 rate. I only asked him how much it would be for a cracked back and front
emu222 t1_iya9u1n wrote
Regardless of the repair or replacement, you should always have a back up, as repairs can go wrong.
iridescentsocks t1_iyaa9ia wrote
If you’re interested in something you can see use the Get an estimate tool and it will provide you with that rate when selecting Cracked screen and back glass damage. That tool is relatively new and doesn’t seem to list the 12 and 13 for whatever reason even though they get the same repair options.
You can also see the “option” in the AppleCare+ terms and conditions with the keyword being and.
> For an iPhone with both screen and back glass damage, but no additional damage beyond the screen and back glass damage, including, but not limited to, a bent or dented enclosure, that would prevent Apple from replacing the screen and back glass on the Covered Device, separate Screen-Only and Back Glass-Only service fees will apply to the ADH Service.
The price isn’t listed there but it is 58$. Effectively 29$ + 29$.

Depends on the damage, what happened to it?
