I've always been an Android fan but I'm about to have to get a second replacement for my Galaxy S21 Ultra because the charge port is messing up and the cable coming loose from the port. This has happened on other Android phones I've had too. It sucks I will lose apps I have paid for but I'm about to switch to IPhone if it doesn't have this problem

I’ve never had the issue in my family and we have gone through numerous iPhones beginning with the original.

I’ve had almost every model between the 4s and the 13.

Never have I had a port be loose. I had lint get stuck inside my 8 Plus’s port but that was it, and that was easily taken care of!

Nope, the one thing I prefer about Lightning over USB-C is the design. It has little pins inside the phone that push into indents on the plug, I’ve never had a lightning port be loose but every USB-C port I’ve had has loosened up over time.

USB-C is technically superior and has faster data transfer speeds etc, but if all you do with it is charge your phone Lightning wins hands down.

iPhone user since 3GS, never had an issue. Of course once I moved to Sony Xperia I had insane charge port issues a couple months after. I love lightning and it’s little grips.

I have this issue but tbf I’m using an iPhone 6 which went through like 3 or 4 people before getting to me. Probably not something you’d need to worry about happening quickly esp if you buy new/newish

I had to switch to wireless charging about 6 months ago because my port is loose and the cable can no longer make a good connection. My phone is 4 years old.

I have never had that problem with any iPhone or any Android phone and I always carry one of each - currently an iPhone 14 Pro and Microsoft Surface Duo 2. This included last year, however, a Galaxy S21. No offense, but unless you are just unlucky, this is usually related to the user rather than the device. If you are hard on connectors iPhones are no less susceptible than Android devices. Bear that in mind before jumping platforms for a connector.

I completely agree with this opinion.

My month old M2 MBA’s usb c ports feel mushier than the lightning ports on my 2016 iPhone SE or my 2016 iPad Pro.

I want usb c everywhere so it’s easier to connect everything together, charge anything anywhere, all that good stuff.. but I would hate for my phone’s charging port to be mushier.

Check for compacted lint and dirt. This is a common cause of loose ports on mobile devices. Use a plastic pick or tooth pick to clean out the port. No metal pins or picks.

There are multiple people on here saying they've had the same problem as me when they were using Android. I'm not hard on my device at all. In fact I've been quite careful because I've already had to replace this phone once for the same reason

Wondering what you do with your charging port lol. I have owned my phones for generally 3+ years, never had a usb-c port go bad. And do mishandle them, pulling my phone using the wire and all.

Do you just sit on the port while charging it lol :P

I mean I don't mean to say you didnt face the issue. It was being sarcastic.

But I honestly don't think it's an Android vs iPhone thing. I have seen atleast couple of people in my life time in my friends and family whose iphone ports went bad. So tbh, I think it boils down to people's usage pattern or probably their luck receiving a defective device.

My mom, dad, me and my gf have all owned androids (generally top tier ones), and nothing ever went bad , including the port. Can't comment on budget Android devices, as they may have slightly poor build quality.

Just a question, which devices have you owned apart from S21 ? I have had a samsung, then oneplus, and then the s22u. never faced issue on these brands.

My parents have had Samsung and Xiaomi, theirs are good as well. And they keep their phones much longer than me.

I really want the 1 cable to rule them all, especially since my iPhone is now my only Lightening device left in my home, but I love the quality and fit of the lightning. I always feel like I'm going to break the port on my Type C devices.

Not at all. A couple times per year I get enough lint in the port to make my connection a little wonky. I just gently clean it out with a toothpick and it’s good as new.

No but lightning cables have shorter life than usb c.
