Just picked up a Gen 2 off of ebay. It's bulky, awkward, and I don't understand why the average person needs such a big screen (unless perhaps you have an astigmatism or similar). Want to play video games? Get a Nintendo Switch. Watch movies? Get a much bigger screen with an ipad rather than carrying around a clunky awkward phone. Edit spreadsheets? Use your computer. I can appreciate that some people are editing docs on the go, but is that that many people?
Sad an actual intelligently designed phone has gone out of style.

I have astigmatism, so larger phones work better for me. That said, I miss the smaller form factor iPhones. The 5s was as close to perfect as you could get.

Right.. totally agree with you. I wonder if this bigger phone thing didn't start with Samsung as an obvious counter to the original iPhone (and everyone's reasonable assumption that bigger is always better). Of course also helps sell cases.
Surprised by how defensive others are getting about this, lol.

I figure that this all started with the launch of the original Samsung Galaxy Note. It had a 5.3 inch screen, which was considered massive.

Yea, a good observation. It was an easy way to immediately differentiate and pull over some business. Can understand the tactic.
