About a week ago my phone screen display randomly started to get a green tint to it. It would flash back and forth but it would still function as normal. I brought it in to the apple store and they told me this was not a common occurrence even though there seemed to be a fair amount of reported cases online. Two days later, I was an hour and a half away from home, using my gps. I pulled over to stop in a store, put the phone in my pocket for maybe 10 minutes, got back to the car and the screen was black. I tried every type of restart I can find, nothing works. When I tap the screen, this is the only response I get. I have an Apple Store appointment today but I don’t know how screwed I am. I need to be able to back up the phone!

Display cable or controller is busted

Is that going to be a major fix? Like enough that I’ll lose everything on the phone?

You'll lose some money if there's no warranty. Also backup your phone before any repair

Yeah. It’s expensive, but I did not have a choice. Thank you for the heads up. Should be picking it up tomorrow.

You probably won’t loose anything on the phone, if you do not have AppleCare+ it might cost quite a lot though

Let this be a fair warning to any 12 Pro Max owners out there. If you start to get the green tint issue, back up your phone ASAP! This is the next phase of the problem.
