If you also used an Apple Adapter, then escalate it on Apple support, meaning they should request you sending the cable to them (they’ll pay postage) including photo copy of the iPhone box with the manufacture labels so Apple can pinpoint what other cables may be defective..

Do note, if you didn’t buy the iPhone new (unboxed), it may not be the original cable. I have had non-original-Apple cables getting hot when using with 2A or iPad adapters. I can highly recommend IKEAs cables! Best yet by far both in price AND longevity!

Secondly, many power adapters are hazardous.. if even a short power surge occurs, these adapters are not made to handle it but either damage the power adapter or forwards the surge, damaging the cable and or the phone.. that is why it is a very cheap insurance getting a power supply/adapter that is certified.. like this Belkin 2x USB-C that can fast charge two devices at once..

he actually is correct* people forget that the iPhone 12 (released in fall 2020) was the iPhone that removed the bricks and they expanded that to the rest of the lineup (at the time it was the SE, XR & 11). however before the 12s release date, all 3 phones mentioned above were still on the 5W brick with usb a cable and still had earpods connected

source: you can check out original unboxing videos, plus me who had an iPhone 11 before the 12 existed

OP said he got it 2/3 years ago which makes sense. Remember the 12 was the one that removed the charger in the first place, but the SE was released earlier in the year before the 12 and during that time it still had a 5W brick with a usb a cable

Cable could have been damaged internally, is the power brick genuine Apple? You mention reseller, who was it?
