So I thought the AOD would work just like my android phones, but there's something that causes the display to still turn off when the room is dark.

Since I use this as my clock at night I don't want to have to touch it to see the time. I don't see any setting for this.

You probably can't.

One of the questionable features of the AOD is that it will turn off "at your usual bedtime" (whatever that is). From the fine iPhone manual: https://i.imgur.com/BPiX59r.jpg

Yeah I found that page. I've tested it and if the lights are on the display stays on. If I turn the lights off within 30 seconds the display is off.

It’s not magic, the AOD just turns off when you enable the sleep focus.

I have zero focus settings enabled and mine shuts off at night

Annoys me a lot too, especially searching for this problem just shows results of people wanting to disable the AOD..
