I've been debating on switching over to the s23 ultra lately, I've been playing around with one for a while and it just seems so darn smooth. The phone seems even smoother than my 14 pro max, ios seems to be slow amd just not as refined anymore. Wanting to know thoughts or if anyone else has noticed this too

Smooth animation is secondary to usability. Think if the S23 will be better in terms of application and integration with anything you do. That will give you the answer.

I can’t relate as my 14 Pro runs beautifully. My work has about 90% of people on iOS but there are a handful on Android and any of the comparable apps just seem half-baked. Anyone switching one way or the other will find things they like and don’t like. I never try to persuade people toward iOS or Android. I always tell them to get what suits their needs first and then their wants.

I recently went the other way (Samsung -> iPhone) and I'd kinda agree. I think it's maybe specifically something to do with the animation speed, general animations seem a touch faster on my old Samsung than they do on IOS where they have a bit longer of a duration, which makes the Samsung feel more responsive.

The actual smoothness of the screen should be the same between the s23 ultra and 14 pro max though, both use 120Hz screens with 240Hz touch sampling rates.

I’m not sure what you could be talking about. 14 Pro Max doesn’t lag with anything at all in my experience.

I think you're just noticing the faster animation speed.

Are you sure it is the 14 pro max and not the 3Gs ?

I’ve definitely noticed the slower animation speeds on iOS. I had a $200 Poco X3 android that had a 120Hz display and it felt and looked MUCH smoother than my iPhone 13 PM’s display. I’m almost tempted to just buy an S23U and use it as a secondary phone just for the smoothness

I’ve also noticed slower animations on iOS, it was so much better with iOS 15… but it has improved with iOS 16.4 I think it’s a software issue, something related to the new Lock Screen feature customization or background apps

I have never had one issue with ios, even the beta testing. I download 16.4 and im having all kinda of issues

Go to Settings>Accessibility>Motion, and make sure that Reduce Motion and Limit Frame Rate are both OFF; some testers had them enabled during the 16.2 and 16.4 betas due to bugs.

Speaking as someone who has just recently switched from Android, within the last month, I have to say that you're fooling yourself. There is simply no way that a Samsung is as smooth as a 14 Pro Max. I wish I had some of what you must be smoking...

Having said that, do what you want, why do you need anyone's approval?

The fact that South Korean news reports, along with complaints by Samsung board members, say a “large majority of Samsung employees use iPhones for personal use” (KS Choi, President & CEO of Samsung Electronics North America) supports you @nelamvr6.

I also upvoted you.

I’ve come from a OnePlus 9 Pro to the iPhone 14 Pro and can comfortably say that the OnePlus feels a little smoother too. Both phones are 120hz.

That said, there’s not a whole lot in it, and I don’t see myself going back to Android any time soon.

I think so as well, I wish apple would give us more control of things like that. After a couple of days of thinking I'm thinking of getting rid of this phone and just going back to a six S. At this point, I don't even use socials anymore and just paying for an alarm clock

In terms of animation speed yes. I think ios 17 will bring those faster animations. What about in apps scrolling smoothness? Is Samsung smoother?

I have 13PM and S23+ , imho 13pm is smoother in comparison. S23+ has faster animations that´s way there´s an illusion that it feels faster than ios.

With S23+ scrolling a webpage often stutters, like its loading something -ios sails smoothly + swiping webpage to the side is way smoother in ios and the swiped page is visible in transition, in S23 it just "plops" to previous page. (maybe browser issue)

Also the general "responsiveness" is better in ios...imho, your experience may differ.
