With the Google photos, do we use the same amount or able to link it separately? Would this work with family so I can just show family photos of the kids without texting individually or posting on social media?

You each have your own google account and then you can create shared albums. Put any photos you want to share into those shared albums. Can add as many people as you want to an album so easy to share with family.
