A family has two iPhones (13 and 11 Pro Max with iOS v16.3.1) with one single shared Apple ID account and two different phone numbers. Using "Find My" to share contact shows "Use This Device When Sharing Your Location? You are currently using '[deleted iPhone's name]' to share your location in Find My, Messages, for personal requests on HomePod, and in automations in Home app. [Not Now] [Use]".

Why can't both be used since each iPhone has its own name, contact, and phone number?

Thank you for reading and hopefully answering soon. :)

Separate Apple ids.

Then whoever keeps the current account starts a family sharing group and invites the seconds account and turns in purchase sharing.

With two separate ids you won’t ah e issues location sharing.

Plus you may run into other issues in the future if two people charge the same Id.

No. FaceID/fingerprint data are stored in each iPhone's secure enclave and are not saved anywhere else.

Apple IDs are not meant to be shared. This is just the beginning of the problems you will have by sharing Apple IDs. Family sharing is how you manage a set of Apple IDs in a family; do not use shared Apple IDs for that.

Also, with the Home app, you don't need to use family sharing with it (although you should). You can invite non-family members to use your Home app, although you'll have to decide is this is wise.

Stop sharing an Apple ID, why would do that? It’s so easy to create a new one.

I mean…clearly not because it’s stopping you getting the functionality you want? Even with child accounts, it’s by far preferable - and more manageable- to create a new child account than share one account.

No, that's a sore point that people have. Airtag locations can only be seen by the owner, and other family members may get the "an airtag was found moving with you" annoying message (but that's true regardless of family sharing).

Other than airtags, the locations of everyone's Apple devices are seen by everyone and cannot be hidden.
