Howdy, I am collecting various marching songs across the world and time periods. Now todayI am asking about the most represented march of the simple soldier of the British Army around 1700-1800. Thus far I have gathered "The british Grenadiers" and "Over the hills and far away", however both of those songs are associated with well, the Grenadiers and the Rifle Corps. But what tune did the Fifes and Drums play for the ordenary soldier? Thanks in advance

You just want marching songs or any kind of historical music?

The only thing I can offer is "hearts of oak" which was a sailing song.
I always thought it incongruous when it was used in Sharpes as a fight song.
