I found a 4,000-6,000 year old (4,000-2,000 BCE) Native American copper spear point while metal detecting a street tearout in Minnesota. That sort of puts AD 600 – 1000 into a new perspective.

And the first known stone spear points date back to around 460,000 years ago, which really puts the period when metal weapon use began into perspective.
